. I have a deep love for cricket, so I booked a ticket to Sri Lanka and got there on my own,” she reminisced.
Her passion and initiative caught the attention of Sony executives, curious as to why she had invested her own money to attend the tournament. At that time, Sony was flying celebrities to watch cricket matches, and they noticed Mandira’s genuine interest and enthusiasm for the sport. This eventually paved the way for her groundbreaking appointment in 2003.
However, Mandira admitted that stepping into the role of a presenter came at the cost of her acting career. She recalled how her identity in the industry began to shift as she was predominantly offered roles as an anchor and master of ceremonies, rather than as an actor. It seemed that the industry had almost forgotten her acting roots. “After working for eight years as an actor and then transitioning into presenting, I realized that I had to remind people, ‘You have forgotten, but I know acting; I am an actor. I began my career as an actor,'” she asserted.
