Tabu Reminisces Unique On-set Experience with Priyadarshan during ‘Virasat’ Shoot

In an intriguing revelation, veteran actress Tabu, who is currently promoting her forthcoming film ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ alongside Ajay Devgn, took a trip down memory lane to share a peculiar incident from the sets of the 1997 movie ‘Virasat’. In her interview with Zoom, the illustrious actress described how director Priyadarshan dramatically poured an entire bottle of coconut oil on her head to perfect the authentic village look for her character, Gehna.

Tabu, known for her compelling performances and versatility, delved into the specifics of the eccentric incident. “Priyan (Priyadarshan) wanted me to have genuinely oily hair to fit the village look,” she recalled. “The hairstylist suggested using a little gel to give my hair that oily appearance. When I turned up on set, Priyan questioned, ‘I asked you to put oil.’ I told him, ‘Yes, I did, just a bit. Look, it has a nice shine.’ He let it go at first but later came back with a full bottle of coconut oil and emptied it on my head.”

Laughing at the memory, she continued, “He told me, ‘This is what I mean by oil in your hair.’ It actually made things easier for me. I didn’t have to worry about hairstyling. My routine was simplified to just applying oil, braiding my long hair, and getting ready in five minutes.”

‘Virasat’ is an iconic film, widely celebrated for its stellar performances and poignant storyline. It’s a remake of the Tamil classic ‘Thevar Magan’. In addition to Tabu, the film featured renowned actors like Anil Kapoor and Pooja Batra.
