Javeria Khan Bids Farewell to International Cricket


In a stirring career move, Javeria Khan, the esteemed former captain of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, has declared her departure from international cricket, leaving behind a legacy filled with splendid achievements and an impeccable dedication to the sport. Launching her career in the national team with her One Day International (ODI) debut in 2008, Javeria proceeded to make her mark in T20 Internationals the following year. Across a span of 15 years, she donned Pakistan’s colors in a commendable 228 international matches amassing nearly 5000 runs, a statistical testament to her prowess with the bat, which includes two centuries and 25 fifties. In addition to her batting virtuosity, Javeria claimed 28 wickets with her adept bowling at the international battleground.

Afforded the esteem of captaincy, Javeria led the national team in 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, including the much-celebrated appearances at two T20 World Cups. Reflecting upon her retirement with heartfelt emotion, she expressed deep gratitude for the unfaltering support that fuelled her journey. “I want to call it a day and announce my retirement; however, I will be available for league cricket,” Javeria conveyed. I want to thank my family, teammates, the Pakistan Cricket Board, my department ZTBL for their support and guidance at each step, and my fans whose appreciation was instrumental in bringing out the best in me. I have been blessed to hold Pakistan’s flag globally.”

In response to the announcement, Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket at PCB, celebrated Javeria’s epochal career. She extended “heartfelt gratitude to Javeria Khan for her invaluable contributions to women’s cricket in Pakistan.” Mallick highlighted the impact of Javeria’s brilliant records and her faith that such a distinguished career will spur future generations of Pakistani girls not just to embrace cricket, but to excel in it. Mallick acknowledged Javeria’s dedication: “We thank her for her untiring commitment and wish her all the success in her future endeavors.”

Beyond her individual glories, Javeria also played an integral role in team milestones, namely the triumphs at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games, where the Pakistan women’s cricket team clinched the gold medal in China and South Korea, respectively.
