Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) celebrated a momentous victory against Gujarat Titans (GT), marking the first time in history that KL Rahul’s squad has triumphed over the formidable Titans. The clash, which ended in a 33-run win for LSG, took place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in their home city of Lucknow. However, the jubilation was tinged with concern as the team’s pace prodigy, Mayank Yadav, suffered a side strain. His injury was particularly troubling as he was forced to leave the field after delivering just one over, yielding 13 runs including three boundaries and failing to reach his typically swift 150 kmph deliveries.
The all-rounder Krunal Pandya, who also made a noteworthy contribution in the match with the ball, provided an update on Mayank’s condition. Speaking to the host broadcaster, Krunal shared that after a brief chat with the fast bowler, he felt reassured about Mayank’s status. “I don’t know what is happening but I did have a brief couple of seconds’ chat – he seemed okay, which was quite a relief for us,” said Krunal following the game.
Before the unfortunate injury, Mayank Yadav had been demonstrating remarkable skill on the field. His recent performance snagged six wickets while allowing only 41 runs in matches against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. These numbers present a clear image of his burgeoning talent and the potential void his absence could create in the LSG lineup. Further reflecting on Mayank’s abilities and character, Krunal expressed admiration for the young speedster. “A bright prospect, I’d been watching him from last two years. He used to bowl gun in the nets. Last year, unfortunately, missed it (due to injury). But again, whatever conversation I have had, what I see is that he has a good head on his shoulders as well,” Krunal added with evident appreciation for his teammate.
Mayank’s injury did not detract from LSG’s overall performance against GT, as they managed to defend a total of 163 runs with a commanding bowling display. The bowling unit was especially impressive, featuring standout performances from Krunal Pandya and the emergent talent, Yash Thakur. Thakur, in particular, seized the opportunity spectacularly, claiming a maiden fifer in the tournament. His exceptional return of 5/30 in 3.5 overs included critical wickets at strategically important phases of the match—removing GT skipper Shubman Gill during the powerplay and then later dispatching Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmed.
Complementing Thakur’s heroics, Krunal maintained a stringent line and length throughout his four overs, showcasing his value as a seasoned campaigner. His economical bowling figures of 3/11 were instrumental in thwarting GT’s chase and ensuring his team emerged victorious at the finish line.
This win marks LSG’s third victory in the ongoing season and the first against the Titans in their fifth encounter.
