‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ Falls Short at Box Office Despite Star Cast and Festive Release

In a surprising turn of events, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,’ featuring the dynamic duo of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, opened to a lukewarm response at the box office, despite being released during the auspicious Eid holiday period. Garnering a worldwide collection of Rs 36.33 crore on its debut day, the action-packed movie was unable to meet the high expectations set by the industry and the fans alike.

Helmed by the renowned director Ali Abbas Zafar, the film embarked on its box office journey with high hopes and anticipation. It was surrounded by a festive buzz, with the star-studded cast expected to draw a large audience. Movie enthusiasts across the globe were eager to witness the film’s heart-pounding narrative after a series of high-octane trailers and promotional events.

However, despite the considerable star power and the film’s production scale, the domestic box office numbers painted a different picture. The expected figures for a film of such magnitude and cast on an Indian holiday like Eid were estimated to approach the Rs 30 crore mark, but the reality proved otherwise. The movie managed a rather underwhelming Rs 16.07 crore on its opening day in India. Competing against Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan,’ which also released simultaneously and collected a modest amount, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ couldn’t secure a resounding victory in the box office clash.

Esteemed trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to social media to highlight the unexpected performance, noting the absence of the forecasted big total that should have accompanied a national holiday release. Adarsh observed that a movie with such a dream ensemble cast, opulent production value, an occasion like Eid backing it up, aggressive promotion strategies, not to mention the impressive track record of its director, should have ideally opened anywhere between Rs 25 to Rs 30 crore, if not higher. Instead, the film’s numbers were considerably lower than industry expectations, a telling sign given the high production costs involved.

In the days ahead, it will be crucial for ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ to significantly elevate its revenue from Friday to Sunday to achieve a respectable 4-day extended weekend total—a sentiment echoed by Adarsh as the film entered a crucial phase post-initial release where performance is key to determining long-term success.

The film boasts of a notable ensemble apart from the leading duo, including Malayalam cinema’s prominent actor Prithviraj Sukumaran in the role of the antagonist. Bollywood beauties Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F, and Sonakshi Sinha also grace the screen, adding a blend of glamour and acting prowess to the mix. ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ is presented by Vashu Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment in association with AAZ Films. The film is a result of the creative efforts of producer and director Zafar, along with the producing team of Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani, Himanshu Kishan Mehra, and Ali Abbas Zafar who collaborated to bring this cinematic adventure to life.

As it stands, the coming days are critical for ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ as it strives to capture audiences’ interest and make up for the opening shortfall. While the star power certainly remains a formidable force, the true test lies ahead as box office numbers in subsequent days will determine if this high-stakes action drama can turn the tide and emerge as a box office sensation. Only time will tell if the movie can overtake its competition and achieve the blockbuster status it was envisioned to secure.
