Tanishaa Mukerji Describes Harrowing On-Set Accident and Recovery

Tanishaa Mukerji, a familiar face in the Bollywood film industry, opened up about a past traumatic experience on the set of her debut film ‘Sssshhh…’. Despite not achieving the same level of fame as her sister Kajol, Mukerji has had her fair share of memorable on-screen appearances. It was during the shooting of ‘Sssshhh…’, a suspenseful slasher directed by Pavan S. Kaul featuring actors such as Karan Nath and Dino Morea, that she encountered a life-altering incident.

Taking to her Instagram, Tanishaa Mukerji shared a candid moment from her life-changing ordeal. The actress spoke at length with News 18 about the repercussions of the accident that left her with a significant brain injury. “I was brain damaged. I fell off a mountain and I had a massive concussion,” she revealed. Reflecting on the harrowing time, Mukerji discussed the extended aftermath of the fall, a period filled with recurrent medical examinations to monitor her recovery. “For pretty much one year of my life, I had to go for regular EEGs because you have to check if the swelling in my brain had reduced. It took one year for it to actually come back to its normal size.”

The physical toll of the concussion had a profound impact on her routine during the film production. Mukerji confided, “I didn’t tell anybody this but I did have a lot of difficulty because I was shooting my first film.” She had to adapt to an exhausting schedule, splitting her time between short bursts of work and rest. “I used to literally shoot for 2 hours and sleep for 3 hours. I would literally shoot for 2 hours because it would be so hectic and I would pass out. I wouldn’t be able to stay awake because my brain was exhausted,” she described the struggle to maintain professional commitments amidst immense physical duress.

Despite the initial setback in her early career, Mukerji’s zeal for acting never waned. Over the years that followed her debut, she continued to grace the big screen in various films, such as ‘Neal ‘n’ Nikki’, ‘Sarkar’, and ‘Tango Charlie’. Her on-screen journey, however, experienced an extended pause, leaving fans wondering about her absence from cinema.

The actress broke her silence on this hiatus in an interview with ANI. “I don’t think that’s a conscious choice. That just happened by default, when these things happen…I think there has been a break in my released films, but I haven’t taken a break from acting,” she affirmed, indicating that while her presence in released films diminished, she remained active in the acting realm throughout.

Tanishaa’s return to the limelight came with the 2021 spy thriller, ‘Code Name Abdul’, marking her re-entry into mainstream cinema. And the actress is not stopping there. She is gearing up for her role in the upcoming film ‘Luv You Shankar’, where she stars alongside Shreyas Talpade. Directed by Rajiv S Ruia, the movie also features a robust ensemble cast including Sanjay Mishra, Elakshi Gupta, Abhimanyu Singh, Hemant Pandey, Master Mann Gandhi, and Prateek Jain.

In conversation with IANS about her involvement with the film, Tanishaa conveyed her enthusiasm and the personal significance of her upcoming project. “Being a part of ‘Luv You Shankar’ has been a truly fulfilling experience. It’s a film that celebrates the human spirit and the power of love, and I’m excited for audiences to embark on this divine journey with us,” she stated.

The film ‘Luv You Shankar’ is scheduled to have its release on April 19 and promises to be a testament to Tanishaa Mukerji’s resiliency and dedication to her craft; qualities that have enabled her to overcome her traumatic experience and continue to engage and inspire audiences with her performances.
