Bollywood’s box-office heavyweight Salman Khan has returned to India from Dubai under high-security measures as depicted in a recent photograph taken by Yogen Shah. Amidst an atmosphere of heightened alert, the actor is gearing up for the production of his next big venture, Sikandar, slated to commence filming in May.
A week earlier, there had been a buzz around Salman Khan’s upcoming schedule after a report had indicated plans for starting the Sikandar shoot (Two much to handle, Apr 18). It emerged that Khan, despite receiving undisclosed threats, remains resolute in fulfilling his professional endeavors. With such resolve on the superstar’s part comes an equally steadfast approach to his safety as key stakeholders take no chances with the soon-to-begin film shoot.
In light of the situation, Salman’s personal security detail, supplemented by the Y+ security level assigned to him, alongside Sikandar’s film production crew, are moving forward with caution. Our sources reveal that in the mechanism designed to protect Khan, the shoot’s specifics, including dates and locations directed by A.R. Murugadoss, will remain closely guarded secrets.
These confidences will be known to a select few. As per an insider, “Pre-production is on the horizon, yet those involved are aware that they will be kept in the dark regarding the lead actor’s exact shooting schedules and movements. A small, trusted circle consisting of only 10 individuals, independent of the actor’s personal security team, will be entrusted with this sensitive information.” This assumes greater significance given Salman’s ever-present public and media attention.
The action-packed film is anticipated to see its principal photography in two of India’s major cities: Mumbai and Hyderabad. However, preparations for ensuring a safe shooting environment will mobilize even before the cameras roll. “About two weeks before each shooting phase is to begin, we will witness Salman’s security detail assume control over the venue to scrutinize and strengthen its defenses. Only once the location is declared secure will the cast and crew be given the green light to commence work. This protocol is expected to be replicated with each subsequent change of shooting location,” the source added.
The need for such stringent security measures became, unfortunately, more apparent when, on April 14th, an incident involving shots fired outside Khan’s Bandra residency led to the apprehension of two suspects. Furthermore, the police investigation has resulted in the identification of gangster figures Lawrence Bishnoi and Anmol Bishnoi as ‘wanted accused’ in connection with the case.
The reality of this threat has meant that the way Bollywood conducts its high-stake business is having to adapt, especially for those figures of the industry who carry a heightened risk profile like Salman Khan. Movie sets, which are typically hubs of bustling activity, are being transformed into tightly secured enclaves.
While these developments could potentially dampen the usual exuberance around movie shoots, they also highlight the relentless commitment of film professionals such as Salman Khan to their craft—demonstrating yet again why they hold such iconic statuses in the Indian film industry. As Sikandar moves closer to production amid these unique challenges, the industry and fans alike will be watching keenly, hopeful for both the safety of its beloved star and the successful creation of another cinematic blockbuster.
