SRH’s batsmen unleashed a flurry of boundaries, setting the stage for what would be recorded as a historically dominant innings, and establishing a target that proved insurmountable for the home team.
SRH had signaled their intent to rewrite the record books early on in the season by setting impressive totals, eclipsing the 270-mark twice against heavyweight teams. Entering the match with high spirits and on the back of this momentum, it appeared SRH was in a chase to surpass the elusive 300 mark. Though falling short of this feat, their powerplay performance will be etched in the annals of IPL history, achieving a blistering 125 runs — the highest ever in the league, to lay the foundation of their mammoth fourth-highest IPL score of 266.
The stage was set on fire by Travis Head, whose audacious hitting saw him plunder 19 runs from Khaleel Ahmed’s first over, including a colossal six over long-on. The assault on Delhi’s bowlers continued with Lalit Yadav and Anrich Nortje facing the brunt of Head’s power-hitting. He raced to a 16-ball half-century, peppering all parts of the ground with boundaries. Abhishek Sharma, his partner in destruction, supported by contributing a rapid 40 off just 10 balls, challenging for the fastest fifty in the tournament.
This batting masterclass was punctuated by impactful innings from the other SRH batsmen, including Shahbaz Ahmed’s pivotal unbeaten 59, ensuring that SRH reinforced their position of dominance.

The accumulation of consistent wickets, particularly through the handiwork of Mayank Markande and the disciplined spell by T Natarajan, quelled the surging DC. Natarajan’s impeccable line and length, coupled with four crucial wickets in his final over, capped off an exceptional performance in what were regarded as favorable batting conditions.
The DC innings concluded at 199, symbolizing a commendable attempt that unfortunately fell well short of the mammoth target set by SRH.
