The ‘Munna Bhai’ series, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has been a cinematic phenomenon, winning hearts and breaking box office records with ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. These films have not just entertained but also created a legacy, growing more beloved as years pass. The endearing duo of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, playing Munna and Circuit respectively, became an iconic on-screen pair whose camaraderie audiences adored. Now, with the potential of a third installment of Hirani’s celebrated franchise in the air, actor Arshad Warsi, in a recent conversation, offered insights that have captivated and intrigued fans.
Warsi, better known to many as the lovable sidekick Circuit, discussed the current status of the much-anticipated third ‘Munna Bhai’ film. Despite the keen interest of key players involved in the making of the previous films, Warsi revealed that the third installment is not yet in production. “Vidhu Vinod Chopra wants to make it. Rajkumar Hirani also wants it to be made, and Sanjay Bhai also wants to do it and I will do it too. But the film is not being made yet,” explained Warsi.
Delving deeper into the reasons behind the delay, he shed light on script-related issues that seem to be impeding progress. “Raju has three great scripts for the sequel. Some things are missing here and there. I don’t think that’s happening. Now a lot of time has passed. I told Raju that whatever begins, also has an end. Looks like we left the Munna Bhai film franchise on interval. Everyone is impatient because it is not over yet. Munna Bhai series needs to end,” Warsi added thoughtfully.
The ‘Munna Bhai’ films have showcased Hirani’s flair for blending humor with social commentary, making them standout entries in his film repertoire which boasts a stellar success rate. The director’s craftsmanship in storytelling and the heartwarming narratives of the ‘Munna Bhai’ movies have etched them in the annals of Bollywood as modern-day classics.
On another note, Warsi is preparing to reprise his role in the forthcoming ‘Jolly LLB 3’. The ‘Jolly LLB’ series, which originated with the 2013 Arshad Warsi-led courtroom drama, is known for its dark comedic tones and engaging drama. Warsi’s portrayal of a scrappy lawyer in the original ‘Jolly LLB’ found him pitted against a formidable legal adversary amidst a hit-and-run case involving a wealthy man’s son.
The second chapter, featuring Akshay Kumar in the lead, released in 2017, tackled another complex issue – a staged encounter led by a corrupt police officer, played by Kumud Mishra. Kumar’s character of Jagdishwar Mishra fights tooth and nail in the courtroom to ensure justice prevails.
While fans eagerly await further news on the ‘Munna Bhai’ trilogy, the spotlight on Warsi continues as he gears up for another legal battle in his upcoming film. Both the ‘Munna Bhai’ and ‘Jolly LLB’ franchises have cemented their places in the hearts of audiences with their potent mix of entertainment and thought-provoking themes. As the Indian film industry continues to evolve, these franchises stand as testaments to the enduring power of storytelling and the beloved characters that turn films into cultural touchstones.
The anticipation for the third installment of ‘Munna Bhai’ remains, but as the series hovers in hiatus, fans and the film fraternity alike hold on to hope that the beloved Munna and Circuit will return to grace the big screen once again, offering laughter and life lessons in equal measure.
