Sri Lanka Unveils Schedule for India Series T20Is Kick Off on July 26

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has released the much-anticipated schedule for the upcoming bilateral series against India, which includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). This announcement comes as both teams prepare for an exciting series of matches later this month. Currently, the Indian cricket team is engaged in a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, with the conclusion of this series set for July 14.

For Sri Lanka, this upcoming series marks their first assignment since their disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out during the group stages. With fresh strategies and renewed vigor, the Lankan team looks forward to better performances on home soil.

From the Indian side, a significant number of players currently participating in the Zimbabwe series are likely to be seen in action against Sri Lanka. The T20I series is slated to begin on July 26, followed by the second T20I on July 27, and the final game on July 29. This series will also be notably significant as it marks the first assignment for India’s newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir. Appointed recently by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gambhir’s leadership will be under scrutiny as he debuts in this high-profile role.

Following closely, the three-match ODI series will commence on August 1. The second and third ODIs are scheduled for August 4 and August 7, respectively. The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy will host all three T20I matches, while the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will be the venue for the ODIs. This choice of venues is aimed at offering players and fans world-class facilities and a vibrant atmosphere.

Adding an intriguing twist to the narrative, Sri Lanka has also announced an interim head coach in Sanath Jayasuriya. This development follows the resignation of Chris Silverwood post the T20 World Cup debacle. The appointment of Jayasuriya, a renowned figure in cricket, has sparked interest and optimism among Sri Lankan fans and analysts alike.

This series is also noteworthy as it marks India’s return to Sri Lanka for a bilateral white-ball series since July 2021. Back in 2021, the Indian team was coached by Rahul Dravid with Shikhar Dhawan leading a second-string squad. A lot has changed since then, as Dravid’s coaching stint concluded with the World Cup, and Dhawan has found himself further down the pecking order, having last played for India some time ago.
