Veteran Actress Tabu Explains Why She Never Starred Opposite Shah Rukh Khan

In a career that has spanned decades and cemented her as one of Bollywood’s most respected actresses, Tabu has surprisingly never shared the screen as the leading lady opposite the iconic Shah Rukh Khan. This surprising revelation comes as the actor is on a whirlwind promotional tour for her upcoming film, “Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha,” where she stars alongside Ajay Devgn.

Tabu, while speaking to Galatta India, delved into the reasons behind this absence of collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, explaining, “I am not a producer, nor a director or a scriptwriter. I am really not dictating who Shah Rukh Khan works with and which films are going to be made and which films are going to be offered to me next. I can only say yes or no to what is being offered to me.”

There was a time when both these titans of the film industry were offered projects together. Tabu elaborated, “There were films that were offered to us (Shah Rukh Khan and Tabu). I know the films I have refused and I am sure he must have also refused a few films. So, nothing really happened where our paths crossed.”

A memorable instance where they did meet on screen, albeit briefly, was for Tabu’s cameo in the 2007 film “Om Shanti Om,” directed by Farah Khan. The film, a romantic drama with elements of comedy and fantasy, boasted a star-studded cast with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. Tabu’s cameo in the song “Deewangi Deewangi” saw her gracefully donning a red saree, leaving an indelible mark despite the short screen time. Reflecting on this cameo during an interview with Zoom, she said, “Lot of people want to see us together. It was great fun. They made me some great clothes, great hair, and makeup, and we got very expensive gifts from Shah Rukh Khan.”

As Tabu continues to forge ahead in her illustrious career, fans eagerly anticipate her performance in “Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha.” The film, directed by Neeraj Pandey, promises to be a unique musical love story with an epic romantic drama spanning 20 years, from 2002 to 2023.
