Latha Rajinikanth on ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ case: ‘It’s a case of humiliation harassment and exploitation’

In a recent courtroom twist, Latha Rajinikanth, the spouse of iconic Tamil actor Rajinikanth, has described the cheating case against her as a gross display of “humiliation, harassment, and exploitation.” Latha’s comments emerged following a court hearing in Bengaluru on Tuesday, where she was granted bail and the case was adjourned to January 6.

Addressing the media outside the courthouse, Latha conveyed a sense of injustice over the allegations linked to the 2015 production, ‘Kochadaiiyaan’, featuring her superstar husband. “For me, it’s a case of humiliation and harassment and exploitation of a popular person,” Latha told ANI. Facing the legal challenge head-on, she added, “This is the price we pay for being celebrities. So there may not be a big case, but the news becomes very big.”

Latha strongly refuted any claims of fraudulent behavior or financial mismanagement on her part. “There is no fraudulence. I have nothing to do with the money that’s being reported in the press. I made sure that, as a guarantor, they have been paid.”

Labeling the legal challenge as a “falsely implicated case,” Latha highlighted the incongruities of the accusations. She pointed out, “It’s a framed case saying there’s a letter given in the court of Karnataka with my handwriting. But forensic has cleared it and the Supreme Court has told me that I need not appear.”

The background of this legal controversy dates to 2015 when a Chennai-based ad firm, Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt. Ltd, accused Latha of fraudulent activity and misuse of her position. Specifically, they alleged that she had obtained a temporary injunction against them and various media houses by using a fabricated document in a Bengaluru civil court the previous year; this action was in relation to a monetary dispute with Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited, the production company behind ‘Kochadaiiyaan’.

Latha Rajinikanth also expressed her preparedness to take legal action if the current proceedings were to continue in the same vein. She indicated the possibility of filing a defamation lawsuit in response to the ongoing harassment, citing it as nothing more than a byproduct of her celebrity status. Latha portrayed the situation as a sequence of exploitation, harassment, and opportunistic settlement attempts, ultimately affirming her willingness to provide necessary support for the case in the pursuit of resolution and justice.

This ongoing saga has seen numerous developments, most recently with the Supreme Court reactivating criminal charges against Latha on October 10. The reinstated allegations have prompted Latha to challenge the previous judgment of the Karnataka High Court. While the High Court had dismissed the charges of cheating, it upheld those concerning forgery—a decision Latha sought to contest in the Supreme Court.

Latha Rajinikanth’s situation illuminates the intricate nature of cases entangling public figures, particularly in the realm of Indian cinema where such legal battles often capture intense media scrutiny and public interest. As the case proceeds, observers anticipate the unfolding of further proceedings which may establish a significant precedent for how celebrity-linked litigation is treated in the country’s courts.

The story of the courtroom’s developments around this high-profile case continues to be keenly followed by fans of Tamil cinema and the wider Indian populace, raising questions about the intersection of public persona, legal integrity, and the quest for justice in the limelight. With the hearing adjourned to early January, the next chapter in this legal drama is poised to bring new revelations and perhaps a resolution, in due course.
