‘KGF’ star Yash: Early in my career people found me arrogant when I asked for a script

Kannada superstar Yash, who is currently working on the highly-anticipated movie Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, went down memory lane during the launch of the trailer of Manada Kadalu, a Kannada romantic drama directed by Yogaraj Bhat. The movie, produced by E Krishnappa and G Gangadhar under the banner EK Entertainers, hits the screens on March 28, 2025.
At the event, the KGF star spoke about his early days in the Kannada film industry. “As a youngster trying to break into the film industry, I would ask the directors for my copy of script. They would judge me as arrogant. But my point was ‘how can I be a part of something if I don’t believe in it? I have lost many films because of this,” revealed Yash.
The actor thanked producer E Krishnappa for backing him when he was a rookie in the film industry. Krishnappa, after bankrolling the record-breaking Mungaru Male by Yogaraj Bhat, produced the 2008 hit coming-of-age drama Moggina Manasu, which starred Yash and his now wife Radhika Pandit in lead roles. “Krishnappa sir showed faith in me. I joined the movie in the last schedule and director Shashank narrated the entire script and explained my role in the movie. Till today, I have immense respect for the entire team of the movie,” he recollected.
When asked about the latest update on Toxic, Yash said it wouldn’t be right on his part to talk about the movie at the moment. “I am here to launch a trailer. Let’s talk about the young lead actors in the movie Manada Kadalu (Sumukha, Rashika Shetty, Anjali Anish). This is not the stage to talk about Toxic.
“That said, we are doing something big. Please trust us and have patience,” said Yash, who was speaking to fan and media a day after announcing the release date of Toxic. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is bankrolled by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, helmed by Yash.
The actor also urged the members of the Kannada film industry to upgrade themselves and work harder. “Earlier, even I would put the blame on the audience for not coming to theatres. But, I have realised the fact that the Kannada audiences have always supported quality movies. Let’s work harder. We aren’t inferior to anyone.”
Recently, Hollywood action choreographer JJ Perry shared his experience of working with Yash in Toxic. The actor called the film a “banger.” American actor Kyle Paul, who is also part of the movie, thanked the team, including the director Geetu Mohandas, for being supportive during the shoot.

The makers haven’t announced the complete cast and crew of the movie. Kiara Advani and Nayanthara are reportedly part of the movie.
The makers had released a glimpse of the gangster drama on Yash’s birthday (January 08, 2025). The sneak-peek channels the vibe of American gangster films. In it, Yash, dressed in a white suit, fedora and holding a cigar, makes a commanding entry in a club. The sultry ambiance of the joint, pulsating with extravagance, indulgence and sinful soirée, sets the stage for this “Fairy Tale for grown-ups.”
