Brinda Dahal’s Tribute to India: Independence Day Reflections from a Nepali Actress

New Delhi: As the nation of India gears up to mark its 78th Independence Day, a wave of patriotism and unity sweeps across every corner. One individual who is eagerly looking forward to the celebration is actress Brinda Dahal, known for her role as Vaishnavi in Sun Neo’s widely acclaimed show ‘Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya.’ Brinda, who hails originally from Nepal, opens up about her deep-seated connection with India and the significant place it holds in her heart.

Brinda’s journey from Nepal to India has been one of cultural assimilation and heartfelt embrace. She shares, “Actually, I am from Nepal but by heart I am Indian. Independence means freedom, and when India got independence from the British, everyone understood the true essence of freedom and how it can transform a country. The upcoming Independence Day is the first one I will celebrate in India, and I am so excited for this celebration. My favorite patriotic movie is ‘Swades’; the storyline and Shah Rukh Khan’s acting are fabulous. I also love the song ‘Teri Mitti’ from ‘Kesari.’ Whenever I hear this song, my eyes fill with tears. If I ever get a chance to play a patriotic character, I would love to portray Indira Gandhi.”

Brinda’s affection for her new home country transcends the screen. She elaborates, “I think India’s pride is the people of the country. I am Nepali, but they accept me in my character and praise me for my skills. Now I am Indian, and I feel so proud to be an Indian. From my side, Happy Independence Day to everyone. Like our country, stay independent, believe in yourself, and always look forward. My Massi’s birthday comes on the 15th of August, on Independence Day. Both are precious events for me on the same day. I am so excited.”

Her role in ‘Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya’ has not only brought her closer to Indian audiences but has also deepened her understanding of Indian traditions and values. The show narrates the tale of Vaishnavi, an orphan who upholds a profound reverence for Chhathi Maiyya, whom she regards as her mother. Played by Brinda Dahal, Vaishnavi’s character epitomizes devotion and resilience. Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who plays Chhathi Maiyya, is the divine figure providing protection and guidance to her devotees. The show beautifully encapsulates themes of devotion, the trials of life, and the triumph of good over evil.

“As Vaishnavi, I have learned so much about Indian culture and the significance of Chhathi Maiyya. This role is a blessing, and I am grateful to be a part of a narrative that holds such deep spiritual and cultural meanings,” Brinda states with pride.

Celebrating Independence Day in India for the first time, Brinda is thrilled and eager to partake in the festivities. “The spirit of Independence Day is palpable, and it’s an honor to be a part of this celebration. Watching firsthand how the nation unites in joy and pride is something very special,” she says.

Moreover, her love for Indian cinema, especially patriotic films, reveals another layer of her admiration for the country. “‘Swades’ is a film that truly moved me. Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of a man torn between two worlds, seeking to bring change, is inspiring. The patriotism and love for one’s country reflected in the film resonates deeply with me,” Brinda explains. She adds, “And ‘Teri Mitti’ from ‘Kesari’; what an emotional song. The lyrics and the music bring tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. It reminds me of the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom.”

Looking forward, Brinda expresses her desire to play roles that highlight India’s rich history and the eminent figures who have shaped it. “If given the opportunity to portray a patriotic character, I would love to play Indira Gandhi. She was a powerful leader, and bringing her story to life on screen would be an incredible honor,” she reveals.

The excitement does not end here for Brinda, as she cherishes another personal event on August 15. “It’s also my Massi’s birthday. Having both celebrations on the same day makes it even more special for me. It’s a day of double happiness and pride.”

As India marches forward, Brinda’s message to the nation is one of independence, self-belief, and optimism. “Like our country, stay independent, believe in yourself, and always look forward. Happy Independence Day to everyone. Let’s celebrate the freedom and the marvelous journey of this great nation,” she concludes with fervor.
