ECB Announces Action-Packed Home Season for 2025 Amid IPL Schedule Clash

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled an exhilarating home season lineup for 2025, featuring a series of gripping encounters across all formats for both the men’s and women’s teams. However, this cricket bonanza is set to overlap with the closing stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) once again, which could see several top England players caught in a scheduling conflict.

Earlier this year, the IPL saw the absence of several prominent England players who had to prioritize international commitments, namely a series of four T20 Internationals against Pakistan. This scenario is likely to repeat next year, as England’s Test team faces a one-off red-ball match against Zimbabwe starting on May 22 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This match, set to occur during the climactic stages of IPL 2025, raises questions on the availability of England’s IPL-bound players. Franchises have expressed dissatisfaction with such overlaps, and it is yet to be seen whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will adjust the IPL schedule to mitigate these conflicts.

Following the showdown with Zimbabwe, England will gear up for a highly anticipated five-match Test series against India, commencing on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. The series promises to be another chapter in the storied rivalry between the two cricketing giants, following their nail-biting encounters in previous years.

The 2025 home season will also feature England’s men and women squaring off against the West Indies in three T20Is and three ODIs each. The England women’s team, in addition to their West Indies fixtures, will face India in a competitive series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs, running from June 28 to July 22. On the men’s side, after facing India, they will conclude their summer campaign with a series of three ODIs and three T20Is against South Africa, wrapping up by September 14.

Significantly, the England men’s team will embark on an international tour shortly after the home season, starting with a three-match T20I series in South Africa beginning September 17.

. These packed schedules underscore the robust commitment of the ECB to keep their teams engaged at the highest levels of international cricket.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, ECB Chief Executive Officer Richard Gould conveyed his excitement about the high-profile matches lined up. Gould underscored the importance and excitement of hosting teams such as India, West Indies, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. He also touched on the significance of developing and supporting Test cricket across nations.

“India touring is always a big draw and a highlight of any cricket summer. The last men’s Test series here was a nail-biter and I’m sure next year’s clash will be just as exciting, while our women’s series are always fiercely competitive. I’m delighted we’ll also be welcoming both West Indies teams back again for the white-ball series, following this year’s men’s Test series,” Gould said. The return of Zimbabwe for a Test match after over two decades is anticipated as a historic moment, highlighting England’s role in bolstering Test cricket.

Additionally, Gould announced a landmark fixture set for 2026, where India Women will compete against England Women in the first-ever women’s Test match at Lord’s. This match aims to be a tremendous occasion of significance and a critical milestone in women’s cricket.
