Anjini Dhawan’s Bollywood Debut: Everything You Need To Know About ‘Binny and Family’

Anjini Dhawan is on the verge of stepping into the Bollywood spotlight with her imminent debut in the film ‘Binny and Family’. The buzz around her is palpable, largely because of her famous surname which has left fans and netizens eager to uncover whether she shares any kinship with an established Bollywood personality, namely Varun Dhawan. The connection is indeed true; Anjini Dhawan is the niece of Varun Dhawan, and the granddaughter of veteran actor Anil Dhawan, the brother of acclaimed filmmaker David Dhawan.

The trailer launch of ‘Binny and Family’ recently witnessed Varun Dhawan’s enthusiastic support for his niece. He stood proudly beside her, emphasizing the fact that Anjini secured her debut role purely on her own talent. “Anjini bagged the film by her own merit,” Varun relayed pressing that no familial influence helped her land this role. Varun lauded her determination and tenacity, distancing any notion that his or his family’s industry connections played a part.

‘Binny and Family’, produced by Mahaveer Jain, presents an intriguing storyline centered on the life of a London-based teenager named Binny and her conservative grandparents from Bihar, India, who come to live with her. The resulting culture clash and the dramatic events that ensue form the crux of this film. Joining Anjini in this cinematic journey are actors Rajesh Kumar, Charu Shankar, Pankaj Kapur, and Himani Shivpuri.

Varun elaborated during the launch event that he had no prior professional relationship with Mahaveer Jain, thereby nullifying any speculations of influence. “I am not related to Mahaveer Ji; professionally we haven’t worked together. He didn’t cast her because of me or daddy. I came to know about the film through two friends, Shashank Khaitan and Varun Gupta,” he asserted.

The conversation at the event also steered towards Varun Dhawan’s own entry into Bollywood, revealing that he was not launched by his director father, David Dhawan. Breaking the industry norm, Varun shared that his father firmly believes in self-earned success, a belief that extended to how Anjini’s debut was handled. “My father never launched me. We don’t have that tradition, and he doesn’t believe in it.

. So, we have no hand in what she has done, so it will be wrong for me to take any credit for her success. She has genuinely done this by herself,” Varun shared, further cementing the idea that talent and hard work trump nepotism.

In a display of familial love and pride, Varun later took to Instagram to officially welcome Anjini to the film industry. Posting pictures from the trailer launch, he captioned them with a warm message, “Welcome to the movies @anjinidhawan.”

The Dhawan lineage seems to be strong with this new addition making her mark in cinema with an interesting and contemporary storyline. Anjini’s debut film promises a heartwarming and humorous narrative, portraying the journey of Binny. Contrasting lifestyles and generational conflicts form a rich backdrop for the story, promising a substantial screenplay that could captivate many.

At the trailer launch, Varun also touched upon a personal topic—a reflection on adulting and how it has shaped him post fatherhood. Expressing his thoughts candidly, he remarked on the unique challenge of balancing between being a parent and being parented. “Thoda ajeeb lagta hai ki mummy papa ne abhi abhi daanta hai aur fir hum biwi ke room main bachi bhi daant rahe hai aur fir biwi bhi daantti hai… us waqt aap sochti aapka position kya hai ghar pe… I mean we call this term adulting when you are in between both of these situations. I am very lucky,” Varun explained.

He also shed light on the concerns surrounding a family’s health, particularly as his own parents’ well-being becomes a source of unease. “Mera ek badha bhai hai jo bahut load bhi leta hai … What becomes extremely scary or difficult for the child is the parents’ health…. Jab hum chote hote hai to maa baap worry karte hai abhi bhi karte hai but the same goes for my brother Sidharth and sister Shilpa who are also here,” Varun shared, illustrating a relatable familial scenario.

Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film venture is titled ‘Baby John,’ an action thriller directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee. Featuring a diverse cast including Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, and Wamiqa Gabbi, this film is a remake of Atlee’s Tamil 2016 film ‘Theri’, setting high expectations for the audience.

With a promising film debut and strong support from her family, Anjini Dhawan is geared up to establish herself in the film industry, stirring excitement and anticipation among Bollywood enthusiasts.
