Anushka Sharma Reflects on Childhood Discipline and Parental Guidance

In a recent event held in Mumbai, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma touched upon the significant yet often overlooked aspects of her upbringing that have shaped her disciplined life. Known for her roles in Bollywood blockbusters, Anushka attributed much of her self-discipline to the early life lessons imparted by her parents, particularly her father, Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma. These valuable lessons, she explained, were integral in molding her into the person she is today.

Anushka Sharma, who has returned to the limelight after a brief hiatus, candidly shared how her Army background fostered a structured and disciplined lifestyle. She fondly recalled how her parents seamlessly instilled life lessons through everyday activities, with one poignant example being the discipline around eating at the dining table.

Discussing the subtle yet effective methods her father used, Anushka stated, “I think one thing that my parents did very naturally, and I think it is because I come from an Army background, we lived a very disciplined life. Not like how you imagine a military home to be, but naturally through routines.” She emphasized that the discipline was not enforced through strict or harsh measures but rather integrated into their daily lives in an organic manner.

One specific anecdote that Anushka shared about her father’s approach to discipline involved mealtimes. She revealed, “For example, if we were very finicky at the table, didn’t want to eat something, our dad used to not shout at us. He would simply say, ‘please leave, but when you are hungry, that’s what you’re going to get.'” This simple yet profound strategy taught Anushka and her siblings to appreciate the food presented to them and to understand the importance of not wasting resources.

The importance of these small yet impactful lessons resonated deeply with Anushka, who added, “I think these things are important. We valued what our parents were doing for us. It really has made me appreciate things a lot.” The actress believes that such teachings have played a crucial role in shaping her perspective and values.

Reminiscing about her childhood, she said, “Anything that my mother made while we were growing up was my comfort food. One thing I always go back to, especially when I’m not feeling great, is dal chawal and sukhi aloo ki sabzi—all in one plate. Love it!” This nostalgic reference highlights how deeply connected she remains to her roots and the simple joys of life.
