Anuj Rawat Reflects on DPL Success and Future With RCB

The inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) has proven to be an immense success, captivating the attention of cricket enthusiasts across the country. Drawing large crowds to the Arun Jaitley Stadium and generating widespread discussion, the tournament has become a notable addition to India’s cricketing landscape. Among the standout performers in this maiden season is Anuj Rawat, the dynamic opener for East Delhi Riders.

Anuj Rawat has left an indelible mark on the DPL, helping to propel his team to the semifinals with several dazzling performances. Rawat, who is also a key player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has expressed his appreciation for the Delhi Premier League’s role in nurturing local talent, attributing its success to the initiative undertaken by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

“First and foremost, I want to thank Mr. Rohan Jaitley and the other members of the DDCA for organizing such a wonderful T20 tournament,” Rawat shared in an exclusive interview with India TV. “The Delhi Premier League (DPL) is an amazing initiative that provides a platform for many cricketers who might otherwise remain confined to playing local leagues in the city without further opportunities.”

He highlighted the significance of the tournament by pointing out that players who performed well in the DDCA’s local leagues were selected to participate in the DPL, with the added benefit of live telecasted matches providing greater exposure. “It’s a great launchpad for them,” he added.

Rawat has delivered several impactful innings in the DPL, but one that stands out is his performance against Purani Delhi in the 20th match of the tournament. In this match, East Delhi Riders set a formidable target of 241, thanks largely to Rawat’s incredible batting display.

The left-handed batsman smashed 121 runs off just 66 balls, with a strike rate of 183.33, hitting six fours and 11 sixes. His unbeaten partnership with Sujal Singh, who scored 108 not out off 57 balls, resulted in a record-breaking 241-run stand for the opening wicket, securing a victory for their team by 26 runs.

Reflecting on his breathtaking century, Rawat said, “I knew that if I got off to a good start, it would be difficult for the opponents to contain me. I trusted my ability and capitalized on the momentum.”

Anuj Rawat has become one of the prominent figures in the DPL, and his rise to prominence has been fueled by his involvement in the IPL.

. The 24-year-old played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 and has been with RCB for the last three editions. While he awaits his breakthrough year in the IPL, Rawat remains committed to RCB and admires the team’s conducive environment.

“I don’t want to leave RCB. The RCB dressing room is always relaxed. I share a wonderful bond with everyone at RCB. When you share the dressing room with several great players, it motivates you to perform at your best,” Rawat mentioned, emphasizing the positive team culture at RCB.

Rawat also shared insights into his early cricketing inspirations, acknowledging that he did not have a specific idol growing up. However, as he advanced in his career as a wicketkeeper-batter, he started emulating cricket legends MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. “I didn’t take up the sport by watching someone. I was passionate about cricket and decided to pursue it as a career. After a few years of playing, I began looking up to MS Dhoni and later also started following Virat Kohli,” he revealed.

In an era where young athletes often prioritize physical appearance, Rawat has a different approach to fitness. He believes in building endurance through rigorous ground exercises rather than focusing solely on gym workouts. “Fitness plays a crucial role in keeping players injury-free. Running extra miles, in my opinion, is more important than just working out in the gym,” he concluded.

As the Delhi Premier League continues to gain momentum, Anuj Rawat’s performances and insights underscore the importance of such platforms in elevating local talent and providing a stepping stone to higher levels of competitive cricket. His journey highlights the potential for emerging players to shine and the need for continued support and development initiatives within the cricketing community.
