St. Anne’s and Marwari Vidyalaya Triumph in St Sebastian Centenary U-16 Football Championships


In a thrilling series of events at the St Sebastian High School’s newly-laid artificial turf in Dabul, the St Sebastian HS Centenary Celebrations inter-school football championship concluded recently with spectacular performances by young athletes. The U-16 football tournaments saw St Anne’s High School ‘A’ (Fort) and Marwari Vidyalaya High School (Charni Road) clinching the prestigious titles in the girls and boys categories, respectively.

In the eagerly anticipated girls U-16 final, St Anne’s ‘A’ emerged victorious against their junior counterparts, St Anne’s ‘B’, with a narrow 1-0 win. The match, marked by intense efforts on both sides, was ultimately decided by a moment of brilliance from striker Anushka Vijayakar, who netted the all-important goal that secured the title for her team. The clash was a display of strategic gameplay and rigorous defense, as both teams battled to outdo each other in a match that had the onlookers on the edge of their seats.

Following this, the boys U-16 final added to the thrill of the evening. Marwari Vidyalaya faced off against St Teresa High School (Girgaum) and managed to secure a win with a scoreline of 1-0, thanks to a decisive second-half goal. Hardworking forward Parth Gohil was the star of the match as his single effort made the difference, earning Marwari Vidyalaya the much-coveted boys U-16 title. Earlier in the day, the boys U-12 category final witnessed Campion School (Cooperage) showcasing their dominance with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Marwari Vidyalaya. Martin Quer and Ayaan Khan were the standout performers for Campion School, with each contributing a goal to seal the victory.

. In the U-16 girls category, Christine Fernandes of St. Anne’s ‘A’ was acknowledged as the top scorer, demonstrating her exceptional capabilities on the field. Meanwhile, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the same category went to Zoya Sherif of St Anne’s ‘B’, honoring her all-round performance and significant contributions throughout the tournament.

In the boys U-16 category, the top scorer accolade was awarded to Ashlin Alva from Campion School, while the MVP distinction was deservedly earned by Parth Gohil of Marwari Vidyalaya, whose goal-scoring prowess in the final was instrumental in his team’s success.
