Exclusive | Alaya F on completing 4 years in industry: ‘My contemporaries got lucky because they debuted a little before

As the scion of a prestigious film lineage, actress Alaya F has made an indelible mark on Bollywood with her promising debut in the 2020 film ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’. Daughter of Pooja Bedi and granddaughter of Kabir Bedi, she has recently completed a noteworthy four-year tenure in the industry. In an intimate conversation with midday.com, Alaya F opened up about her journey so far, revealing the factors that drive her film choices and how she’s establishing her own identity amidst a sea of contemporaries.

The discerning actress explained that her go-to criteria for selecting roles hinges on a combination of factors: “For me, it’s the co-actor, the producer, the director, and the script. At least two things have to align; if two out of these four align, it’s a project I’m interested in. If less than two things align, then it’s not something I’m interested in.” She maintains that her decisions are also influenced by instinct and a relentless pursuit for the right opportunities.

Alaya’s illustrious familial connections might seem like a ticket to stardom, yet she has chosen to navigate the film industry on her own terms. “It influenced my choice to not want to be an actor after that. So, ever since I did decide to be a part of this industry, I decided that I wanted to do it my way,” she reflected. Her decisions are respected by her family, who have provided support without pressure, enabling Alaya to proudly carry an independent career narrative.

In today’s digital age where celebrities’ lives are perpetually under the microscope, Alaya strives to maintain a balance between her personal life and the demands of social media. “You know, I’m pretty authentic with my social media.” She admits that only a fraction of her life is shared with the public, which helps her retain some sense of normalcy amidst her rising fame. She acknowledges the power that social media wields, particularly for those in the public eye, and treats it with a mixture of respect and measured detachment.

Resisting the trap of constant comparison in a fiercely competitive environment, Alaya admits to observing her peers but quickly points out the multitude of variables affecting each actor’s journey. She pointed out the advantages her contemporaries had by debuting slightly earlier, giving them time to establish their careers before the onset of the pandemic. Despite acknowledging that luck and connections play roles in success, Alaya prefers to focus on her own unique path, striving to carve out a distinct and successful career in acting.

Alaya, poised for continued growth, will soon grace the silver screen alongside Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in the much-anticipated film ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’. As she reflects on her past and looks forward to the future, it’s clear that her blend of talent and tenacity, coupled with a clear, individualistic approach to her craft, marks her as a unique force in the Bollywood landscape.

Stay tuned to midday.com for more updates on the actress’s journey and future projects, as Alaya F continues to captivate audiences with her performances and carve out her very own chapter in the annals of Indian cinema.
