Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki to be screened for consultants of European countries along with special session with Rajkumar Hirani

As the cinema world increasingly recognizes the power of Indian films on the global stage, one movie, in particular, has made an indelible mark, not just among the general audience but also with international diplomats and consuls. “Dunki,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and featuring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is poised for a unique honor – a special screening for the consulates of European countries.

Following its impressive box office performance and resonating with audiences across India and other countries, “Dunki” is now turning its spotlight to a more discerning and prestigious group. The film is notable for broaching the sensitive and topical subject of immigration through its narrative. Specifically, “Dunki” touches upon the perilous journey often undertaken by individuals resorting to illegal means, colloquially known as the “donkey route,” in pursuit of a better life abroad.

The anticipation among the consulates for this experience is palpable. According to a source connected to the event’s organization, “The consulates of the European countries are very fired up to watch Dunki at the special screening as it talks about illegal immigrants who take the donkey route to go abroad.” They’re also reported to be eager to engage with director Rajkumar Hirani in a detailed post-screening discussion, eager to delve into the insights and themes presented by the film.

“Dunki” has previously been showcased in a similar context, with consulates of various nations attending, considering their integral role in the visa and immigration processes. Such screenings provided diplomats with a cinematic portrayal of the trials and realities linked to their daily professional undertakings.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Rajkumar Hirani was questioned about any thematic overlaps between “Dunki” and another of his projects, “Munnabhai Chale America,” given both films involve narratives around the aspiration to reach America. Hirani elucidated, “No, that was a completely different story. That story was basically in a nutshell about George Bush, who at that time had made some anti-Muslim statements. The whole story was these guys got very upset with it, and they said ‘we’ll go to America and bring George Bush to India.’”

Adding to the film’s allure is a star-studded cast, including the likes of Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover, who join Shah Rukh Khan in bringing this compelling story to life. “Dunki,” presented by JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films, is produced by Hirani and Gauri Khan, with a script penned by Abhijat Joshi, Hirani, and Kanika Dhillon. This cinematic piece has already graced the big screen, much to the appreciation of viewers worldwide.

The issue of immigration, a focal point of “Dunki,” underscores the lengths people will go to achieve their dreams of a better life—often embarking on treacherous and lengthy journeys. This motif has struck a chord not just with regular movie-goers but on an international diplomatic platform as well. Additionally, the success of “Dunki” has cemented Shah Rukh Khan’s status as one of India’s beloved cinema icons, marking his third consecutive hit at the box office.

With “Dunki” set to grace the halls of European consulates, it stands as a testament to the potential of Indian cinema to transcend borders and initiate dialogue on poignant global matters. The engagement with European diplomats underscores a growing recognition of the cultural significance and social impact that films from Bollywood can have, serving as a bridge between nations and cultures.
