Team India managed to dismiss an in-form Nicholas Pooran with just 20 runs on the board during the 3rd T20I clash against West Indies.
In the midst of captaincy criticism, Hardik Pandya rallied his team in the third T20I against West Indies, orchestrating a comeback for the visitors after conceding the initial two matches to the hosts. The Indian batting line-up has faced scrutiny, particularly due to its extended tail. However, Hardik made it crystal clear on Tuesday that the team will persist with seven batsmen to maintain bowling strength. Speaking of India’s strategy for the 3rd T20I, Hardik was particularly astute in handling the formidable Nicholas Pooran.
“Securing a win was very crucial. As a team, we acknowledged that these three matches would be thrilling. Two losses or wins won’t alter our long-term plans. We need to prove our readiness in such must-win games.
“Nicky (Pooran) didn’t get a chance to bat, which enabled us to conserve our fast bowlers and allowed Axar to complete his four overs. If Nicky intends to take a swing, I welcome him to try against me. It was part of the plan, I relish such competition. I’m aware he’ll hear this and likely come back stronger against me in the fourth T20I,” stated the Indian skipper during the post-match presentation.
India’s frail tail was brought into question after facing defeats in the initial two matches of the five-game series against West Indies.
Reflecting on India’s seven-wicket triumph in the third T20, Hardik emphasized that seven batting options adequately suffice in the playing eleven.
“As a collective, we’ve decided to rely on seven batters, and we must shoulder the responsibility. As seen today, when the batsmen put up runs, there’s no necessity for an eighth batsman,” remarked the skipper.
Hardik also showered praise on his deputy Suryakumar Yadav for his game-changing 83 off 44 balls.
“As Surya mentioned, he and Tilak Varma play together and share time on the field. It’s an asset to have someone like SKY in the team, and when he steps up, it resonates with others,” commended Hardik.
