The need for a replacement arose after the unfortunate injury to stalwart Mushfiqur Rahim. Bangladesh’s team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provided details about Rahim’s condition, stating, “After the match, Mushfiqur underwent an X-ray examination in Dhaka, which revealed an avulsion fracture on the MIP joint of his right thumb. He is currently undergoing conservative management for his injury and is expected to be sidelined for around three to four weeks.” This timeline effectively rules Rahim out of the impending Test series against Sri Lanka, delivering a blow to the team’s plans.
