Aamir Khan Joins Family to Bid Farewell to Ex-Wife Reena Dutta’s Father

In a heartfelt personal appearance, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was recently spotted at the Mumbai residence of his ex-wife Reena Dutta for the somber occasion of her father’s last rites. This poignant moment on Wednesday brought together family and close ties, as Aamir Khan was accompanied by his son Junaid and daughter Ira, with Ira’s husband, Nupur Shikhare, also in attendance. Adding to the moment, Aamir’s second ex-wife and filmmaker, Kiran Rao, attended the proceedings as well, highlighting a unique blend of family dynamics.

Aamir Khan’s long and storied relationship with Reena Dutta began on April 18, 1986, when they were married. Reena, who had a minor role in Aamir’s career-launching film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak,’ has since been a significant figure in his personal and professional life. Together, they have two children, Junaid and Ira, who, despite their parents’ fame, have charted their unique paths. Junaid has ventured into the film industry, making his debut in the streaming movie ‘Maharaj,’ while Ira has remained distanced from acting, choosing a quieter life with her husband, Nupur Shikhare, who once served as Aamir’s fitness trainer and also shares a deep-rooted connection with the family.

Reena Dutta’s involvement in Aamir’s life extends beyond the personal to the professional sphere. She played a key role in Aamir’s film career by working as an executive producer for his Oscar-nominated project, ‘Lagaan.’ Their matrimonial journey, however, came to an end in December 2002 when Aamir filed for divorce. Despite the separation, Aamir took on the responsibility of raising their children, nurturing them into adulthood with Reena remaining a steadfast presence in their lives.

Following this chapter, Aamir Khan remarried Kiran Rao on December 28, 2005. Kiran was initially part of Aamir’s life as an assistant director on the set of ‘Lagaan,’ laying the foundation for their personal relationship. Their family expanded on December 5, 2011, with the birth of their son Azad Rao Khan, born through surrogacy.

As part of her vibrant career, Kiran Rao has recently been in the spotlight for her directorial venture ‘Laapataa Ladies,’ which has been chosen as India’s official entry for Oscars 2025, showcasing her creative prowess and the influence of Aamir Khan’s production house. This marks the third time a film from Aamir Khan’s production company has found a path to the Oscars, setting a precedent of excellence and visionary artistry.

Looking toward the future, Aamir Khan continues to forge ahead in his illustrious film career. His upcoming movie ‘Sitaare Zameen Par,’ directed by R.S. Prasanna, is anticipated with much excitement. Co-produced by Aamir and Kiran Rao, the film promises to captivate audiences and is an adaptation of the Spanish film ‘Champions,’ highlighting Aamir’s continuous quest to bring diverse narratives to Indian cinema. The film, which features Genelia Deshmukh, began its principal photography in October 2023, promising a compelling cinematic experience.

In addition to his acting endeavors, Aamir is also contributing as a producer. His production ‘Lahore 1947,’ directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, and starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, and Ali Fazal, showcases his dedication to enriching Indian cinema with powerful storytelling and compelling performances.
