In a recent rendezvous with glamour, the versatile actor Aashim Gulati seized the spotlight, not just on the silver screen but on the fashion runway as well. Gracing the Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI as the showstopper for renowned designer Siddartha Tytler, Gulati was a sight to behold at the stylish convergence held at Jio World Convention Centre, located in the bustling heart of Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
Clad in a resplendent black ensemble that was generously adorned with crystals, Aashim emanated an aura of confident style. Speaking to mid-day.com in an exclusive interview, he shared his experience of strutting down the runway, “I feel comfortably stylish. I am very comfortable in his (Tytler) clothes, even though it’s a little hot. But I like how it’s done. I like how dazzling it is and how it’s really like out there.”
Fashion, often a personal statement, is influenced by various factors, including comfort and individual moods. Aashim elaborated on his personal aesthetics, stating, “I have a lot to do with comfort and whatever makes me feel good. It could, and it depends on a different day. I could be comfortable in a pajama and a ganji or with a hat. You know, that’s my go-to thing. But if I had to add on a shirt with jeans and a hat, I’d be comfortable in that also. So it just depends on my mood and how I feel on that particular day.”
Not one to shy away from diverse roles, Aashim Gulati has earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of Leo Matthews in ‘Murder Mubarak’, available for streaming on Netflix. His character, an orphan working at The Royal Delhi Club, mirrors the complexity and vibrance of his on-runway attire. “It was very de-glam,” he said of his role, adding that “my style on set was interesting because even though he doesn’t belong to that world, he still is very much part of it. And just to fit in, he also sort of glamourises himself to be a part of that mad world.” He skillfully tiptoes around revealing too much, keeping spoilers at bay for eager audiences.
Possessing an eclectic style that often borders on dramatic, Aashim joked about the frequency with which he overdresses, “All the time. But it’s mostly for my friends and designers who are very hell-bent on experimenting with me because they feel that I bring a lot of drama.”
The conversation naturally segued into his experiences working with director Homi Adajania and the star-studded cast, including the likes of Karisma Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Dimple Kapadia, Vijay Varma, and Sara Ali Khan, in ‘Murder Mubarak’. Reflecting on his time on set, he offered a heartfelt statement, “Absolutely fantastic. It was a dream team. I could not imagine a better opportunity for myself. I’m only grateful because I get to work with all my heroes. And it was a fab time. I would do anything to go back on that set again and work with Homi as many times as I could.”
Aashim Gulati exemplifies the dynamic breed of actors who effortlessly transition between the realms of acting and fashion, leaving a permanent impression in both. His journey is a testament to the power of versatility and a fearless embrace of varied roles and styles. As he continues to navigate different creative pathways, his audience and the fashion world alike eagerly await his next move, be it on screen or the ramp, shining ever so brightly—as only Aashim Gulati can.
