The quest for historical authenticity gives rise to the question: What inspired the director to weave a tale embroidered with elements from this memorable decade? Kasaria discloses that his personal attachment to the 90’s, having grown up with classic romantic films like “Maine Pyar Kiya,” “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak,” and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,” fueled his desire to craft a romantic masterpiece.
His vision crystallized after revisiting an interview with Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood’s reigning king, who postulated that the blockbuster “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” left many yearning for romantic tales like that of Raj and Simran. Kasaria decided to kindle this flame of nostalgia by creating characters that resonate with a cinematic flair reminiscent of the 90s. He aspires for a meeting of the characters that is not only fascinating but exudes enjoyment, trust in the magic of romance, yet with the realization that real love often diverges from the perfection depicted on screen.
Despite being anchored in the 90’s, LSO90’S extends its reach to a newer generation, representing teenagers navigating their high school years circa 2012, thus bridging the temporal gap and making it relevant to a broader audience. Adhyayan Suman quickly became the unanimous choice for the lead male role. Despite initial scheduling conflicts, his dedication to the film grew paramount when approached a second time.
