Amrita Singh’s Reservations Stalled Saif’s Support for Deepak Tijori’s Debut: A Bollywood Revelation

In the grand tapestry of Bollywood’s history, there are countless untold stories that unveil the dynamics of relationships among the glitz and glamor of the industry. One such episode has recently come to light through the reminiscence of actor-director Deepak Tijori. As Tijori embarks on a new journey with his directorial venture ‘Tipppsy’, he delves into past experiences, revealing a surprising incident involving his industry peers during the early days of his career.

While promoting his film, Tijori shared an interesting anecdote with Zoom about his very first directorial film, ‘Pehla Nasha’, and the unexpected challenges that arose within the circle of his friends. Back then, he had sought the support of his peer group which notably included the triumvirate of Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Aamir Khan. These stalwarts of Indian cinema had reportedly agreed to lend their weight to help Deepak’s ambitious project. However, an unforeseen event left Tijori taken aback. He narrates the incident wherein Saif Ali Khan, then married to actress Amrita Singh, faced discouragement from his spouse when he prepared to assist Tijori at his premiere.

Tijori recounts, “There was a moment by which I was really surprised… Shah Rukh (Khan), Saif (Ali Khan), and Aamir (Khan), who were coming. So Saif was getting ready at home, this is his version, when he was getting ready at home, Dingy (Amrita Singh), his then-wife, asked him, ‘What are you doing? Where are you going?’” Upon learning of Saif’s intended plans to support Tijori, Amrita Singh’s reaction was of disapproval. She questioned the necessity of such an act, highlighting that it was not customary for them to do such things—going out to support someone on their premiere shoot. Tijori also emphasized that during the ’90s, there was a strong culture of camaraderie in the film fraternity where everyone would go everywhere to support each other.

Moving beyond the anecdote to focus on the actor-director’s recent work, Tijori is making a comeback with ‘Tipppsy’, a film that boasts an ensemble cast with Tijori himself leading alongside actors such as Alankrita Sahai, Natasha Suri, Kainaat Arora, Nazia Hussain, and more. The plot centers around a group of girls who embark on a bachelorette adventure, which quickly takes an intoxicated twist.

Deepak Tijori’s efforts for ‘Tipppsy’ were recently spotlighted during the trailer launch in Mumbai, gathering notable personalities such as Pooja Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt. The camaraderie was palpable with Pooja Bhatt sharing a heartfelt note on social media, celebrating over three decades of friendship with Tijori.

‘Tipppsy’, a film inspired by the essence of friendship, trust, and celebration, has been co-produced by a team that includes Sana Khan and Anita Sharma, with associate producers Ramesh Sharma of Panorama Studios. The film has been flagged for a nationwide release and is poised to entertain audiences when it arrives in theaters on May 10th.

Tijori’s recollection of the past, albeit coated with a tinge of surprise, sheds light on the complex and often unseen currents running through Bollywood’s social fabric. It not only underlines the importance of support among artists but also portrays the influence personal relationships hold over professional interactions. As ‘Tipppsy’ gears up for its big-screen journey, Deepak Tijori’s role as both a storyteller and a narrative guardian of the industry’s yesteryear is as significant as ever.
