‘Badass Ravi Kumar’ trailer: Himesh Reshammiya’s funky tribute to ‘80s Bollywood masala cinema

The trailer of Himesh Reshammiya’s upcoming film, Badass Ravi Kumar, was unveiled by the makers on Sunday (January 4). Billed as a larger-than-life retro action musical, the film is set to release in theatres on February 7.
The trailer begins with a feint romantic introduction, only to make way for a chainsaw-wielding Ravi Kumar (Reshammiya) to split his enemies into two. From a heist in a tightly secure vault, a machine gun sending cars in the air, a quirkily attired antagonist, an item song or two, and a punchline-spitting ‘dialogue-baazi’ hero who always has an unlit cigarette between his lips, the trailer is Bollywood masala cinema coded throughout.
A spin-off of Reshammiya’s famous character Ravi Kumar from the film The Xpose, the film is said to be “a grand homage to the golden era of Bollywood, delivering high-octane action, unforgettable characters, and a narrative steeped in the masala magic of the 80s.”
While introducing the cast and their characters, the statement from the makers states, “Prabhu Deva stuns as Carlos Pedro Panther, the larger-than-life antagonist whose menace and style steal the show. Kirti Kulhari shines as Laila, a dynamic and bold character, while Sanjay Mishra as Rana, Johny Lever as Rana, Manish Wadhwa as Zaid Bashir, Anil George as Bhujang, Rajesh Sharma as Jagaavar Chaudhry, Prashant Narayan as Mahavir Ahuja, Saurabh Sachdeva as Awasthi and Sunny Leone as Nisha add another layer of intrigue to the film’s action-packed world. Simona is introduced in the movie as Madhubala, one of the leads opposite Himesh in the film.”
Directed by Keith Gomes and produced by Himesh Reshammiya Melodies, the film has a screenplay by Kushal Bakshi and Himesh Reshammiya. Bunty Rathore has penned the dialogues.
With music and background score composed by Reshammiya, the film has cinematography by Manoj Soni and editing by Ram Ishwar.
