In a significant act of support for the transgender community, acclaimed Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana launched the ‘Sweekar Food Trucks’ initiative in Zirakpur, Chandigarh. The name ‘Sweekar’ embodies the vision of societal acceptance and inclusion of the transgender community, reflecting a progressive move towards embracing diversity.
Continuing his streak of socially relevant contributions, Khurrana took it upon himself to facilitate this compassionate venture on Thursday, personally delivering the keys to the transgender community in Zirakpur. This heartfelt step was celebrated as a move towards empowerment and economic self-sufficiency for a marginalized group often overlooked by society.
In an interaction with ANI, Ayushmann Khurrana articulated his belief in the paramountcy of inclusiveness and empowerment for the transgender people, emphasizing the food truck as a beacon of hope and independence. “This Food Truck has been inaugurated for a very special reason – to encourage and include the trans community in society. It’s a small step… more people who think about society and are sensitive towards it should come forward and help them. They are an invisible and underprivileged community in our country and this food truck is a means to make them self-reliant and financially independent so that they can find a place in society,” the actor remarked.
Dhananjay Chauhan, a prominent trans activist from Chandigarh and the first transgender student of Panjab University, who ardently advocates for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, extended gratitude towards Ayushmann for his generous initiative.
“The definition of progress of a country can be measured in how empowered, self-reliant, and protected every community feels. Ayushmann has always been a steadfast ally of the LGBTQIA+ community in India. He has made his support evident through his choice of film roles, lifestyle, and even his social media presence. Having Chandigarh as his hometown makes this contribution even more heartfelt, as it directly helps uplift the transgender community here,” stated Chauhan.
During the event, Chauhan highlighted the aspirations of the transgender community: “We don’t seek anything special from society, only to be seen, heard, and accepted. Many of us possess education and a strong work ethic; we simply yearn for employment opportunities to demonstrate our capabilities. Ayushmann has bolstered our ambitions and been a source of inspiration at every juncture. We are determined to make this endeavor successful.”
On the cinematic front, the multifaceted actor was last seen in the successful comedy-drama ‘Dream Girl 2’, alongside co-stars Ananya Panday, Annu Kapoor, and Abhishek Banerjee, delivering yet another hit performance to his audience.
