In a dazzling display of India’s rich cultural tapestry, Bollywood celebrities Ranveer Singh and Kriti Sanon became the highlight of a spectacular fashion show by illustrious designer Manish Malhotra in Varanasi. The show, themed ‘Banarasi Saree – A tapestry of Indian culture and Craftsmen’, showcased the grandeur of Indian craftsmanship, melding the time-honored tradition with contemporary design aesthetics.
Ranveer Singh, known for his vivid style, looked stunning as he donned a traditional sherwani, radiating his usual charisma on the ramp. Kriti Sanon, his counterpart for the evening, captivated onlookers in a ravishing red lehenga that mirrored the elegance of bridal finery.
In an image shared via ANI’s Twitter account, the actors are seen immersed in the essence of the theme, embodying the spirit of the cultural heritage that the show aimed to celebrate. The fashion showcase not only served as a platform for displaying the beauty of Banarasi garments but also highlighted the extraordinary skill of the local artisans.
The visit to the venerated Kashi Vishwanath Temple by Ranveer and Kriti, alongside Manish Malhotra, was marked by moments of spirituality and reverence. Ranveer, exuding devotion in a white kurta pyjama, expressed his profound experience at the holy site, stating his lifelong devotion to Lord Shiva and the moving energy and vibration of the city of Varanasi. Kriti, in her elegant yellow suit, and Malhotra, sporting a pink kurta with white pyjama, complimented the placid yet vibrant atmosphere of the ghat.
Posting on Instagram, the designer shared a video where he reflected on the essence of Kashi, or Varanasi, as a melting pot of Indian tradition and modernity. He relayed his intention to bring the historic cultural heritage of Kashi to the spotlight through this fusion of modern fashion with tradition, an idea that he wants to extend globally in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local, Local for Global’ policy.
Ranveer Singh took to his Instagram to share anticipatory glimpses of the showcase, expressing enthusiasm about celebrating Indian culture in the animated city of Kashi. The fashion show, held at the Namo Ghat, was a segment of the two-day event on April 13-14, organized by the Indian Minorities Foundation, with the goal to uplift the local handloom and handicraft industry of Varanasi.
On the professional front, Ranveer is set to reprise his role as Simmba in the Rohit Shetty-directed ‘Singham Again’, featuring a stellar ensemble including Deepika Padukone, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. He is simultaneously gearing up for his lead role in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 3’, expected to make a smashing entry in 2025.
Kriti Sanon, riding on the success of her recently released film ‘Crew’, revels in the success of the comedy-drama. The movie, which she stars in alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Tabu, has garnered attention as a humorous roller-coaster set in the trials and tribulations of the airline industry. Directed by a team of powerhouse producers including Rhea Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, along with Ektaa R Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, ‘Crew’ weaves a tale of laughter amidst chaos and deceit. The film, under the banners of Balaji Telefilms and Anil Kapoor Film & Communications Network, enthralled audiences upon its release on March 29.
The fashion event, rich in pageantry and soaked in spiritual narrative, stands as a reminder of the intertwining of India’s ancient heritage and the ever-evolving paradigm of fashion. With stars like Ranveer and Kriti lending their sparkle, the artistic heart of Banaras pulsates ever stronger, reaching out to the world with its unique blend of beauty and charisma.
