New Delhi – The first look of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram in the upcoming adaptation of the epic Ramayana has left the audience eagerly awaiting more. The much-anticipated film has been the subject of widespread attention, with the inclusion of prominent Bollywood stars and meticulous casting choices by director Nitesh Tiwari and casting director Mukesh Chhabra.
The buzz around Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Lord Ram gained momentum after the release of his striking first look. Speaking on the decision to cast Kapoor, Mukesh Chhabra shared insights on the thought process that went into the choice. “Nitesh bhai decided to cast Ranbir very early in the process, and once you watch the film, you’ll see why it’s such apt casting. Ranbir’s dedication to his craft is unparalleled. I think the actors I’ve worked with the most in my career are Ranbir and Rajkummar Rao. Nobody can beat Ranbir when it comes to acting… He’s very neutral about it. He doesn’t bother too much about hits and flops. All he’s concerned about is acting,” Chhabra said, during an appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia’s show.
While Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram is a central highlight, the buzz doesn’t stop there. Mukesh Chhabra has also revealed key details about another pivotal casting decision – the search for Lakshman. After numerous auditions and several rejections, a young television actor has been chosen to make his Bollywood debut as Lakshman. “We’ve found a lovely actor for Lakshman. A lot of people auditioned for the role. But I’m very happy with the actor we’ve gone with; this is going to be his first film in Bollywood. It was the last role we cast.
. We’ve chosen a young actor who has worked a lot in television; he’s a lovely guy. We couldn’t have found a better Lakshman. I’m very happy that the people we’d initially approached all said no. Two or three people said no, because they think that Ram and Lakshman will always have to be together,” Chhabra noted.
The extensive casting process didn’t just end with Ranbir Kapoor and the new face for Lakshman. The film’s ensemble cast features notable actors portraying key roles from the epic. According to reports, Sunny Deol will step into the shoes of Hanuman, Yash is set to bring Raavan to life, and the versatile Sai Pallavi will play Sita. This combination of seasoned actors and fresh talent makes for an intriguing mix that promises to honor the timeless narrative of the Ramayana while offering a fresh take for contemporary audiences.
Chhabra’s strategic casting decisions and the convincing performances we have seen from Kapoor in the past build anticipation for a film that is set to be a visual and emotional spectacle. Ranbir’s ability to immerse himself in varied roles is expected to translate powerfully into his portrayal of Lord Ram—a character that demands a deep understanding of devotion, virtue, and leadership.
Beyond just casting, the production of Ramayana has generated excitement as shooting kick-starts with full vigor. Mukesh Chhabra and Nitesh Tiwari are known for their detailed and immersive storytelling, which indicates that viewers can expect a visually grand and emotionally rich representation of one of the most beloved narratives in Indian culture.
As Bollywood gears up to present this monumental film, the excitement surrounding the cast and production reflects the high expectations of both the creative team and the audience. Filmmaking endeavors of this scale and ambition are few and far between, making each update from the sets a point of fascination for fans and cinephiles alike.
With a star-studded cast and a young newcomer, the Ramayana adaptation is shaping up to be a thrilling blend of tradition and novelty. The promising ensemble of actors, led by Ranbir Kapoor’s compelling presence as Lord Ram, sets the stage for a film that not only honors the ancient epic but also aims to captivate modern audiences in equal measure. As shooting progresses and more details unfold, one thing is certain—Ramayana is on its way to becoming one of Bollywood’s most talked-about films, potentially elevating the portrayal of mythological sagas in contemporary cinema.
