Amid the hustle of voters at a Jubilee Hills polling booth in Hyderabad on a bustling Monday morning, the spotlight subtly shifted as acclaimed film personality and Padma Vibhushan awardee Chiranjeevi made his appearance. Accompanied by his spouse, Surekha Konidela, the star couple performed their democratic duty by casting their votes in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The fourth phase of the grand electoral process was in full swing, with citizens from across the city making their way to exercise their franchise. Polling began promptly at 7 am, with expectations to continue till the evening at 6 pm. Voters from all walks of life lined up across 96 Parliamentary Constituencies, determined to shape the future governance of the nation.

Uttar Pradesh’s 13 seats highlighted the ongoing political battles in the heartland, whereas Maharashtra’s 11, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal’s eight each, Bihar’s five, Jharkhand and Odisha’s four each, and a single seat from Jammu and Kashmir all added to the intricate electoral quilt of the nation.

The fervor of the election could be quantified by the staggering 4,264 nominations filed for these constituencies, each candidate vying for the opportunity to be a voice of the people in the halls of power. High-profile politicos entered the fray, turning the fourth phase into a cauldron of key contests. Among the seasoned political gladiators were prominent figures such as AIMIM’s chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party’s lead Akhilesh Yadav, the Congress stalwart from West Bengal Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, vibrant TMC spokesperson Mahua Moitra, and celebrated film star-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha.

The dramatic ensemble of candidates also featured heavyweight contestants like BJP’s vocal leader Giriraj Singh and JDU’s Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Chiranjeevi’s voting acted as a testament to the importance of participating in this pivotal process.

The polling venue, resonant with the ink being marked upon innumerable fingers, brought together the common citizen and the celebrity, the first-time voter and the seasoned elector, all under the shared banner of democracy.
