In a significant move impacting vehicle owners across the national capital, the Delhi government has announced a revision in the rates for obtaining Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. As per the latest announcement by the Delhi Transport Minister, the new rates for pollution checking are set to commence from Thursday. For petrol and CNG-run four-wheelers, the cost has seen an increase from Rs 80 to Rs 110, addressing long-standing demands and adjusting to the rising costs of pollution checking services.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot explained the rationale behind the revised rates. “In response to the long-pending demands of the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association and to keep up with the rising costs of pollution checking services, we have decided to revise the rates,” said Gahlot, underscoring the dual focus on addressing stakeholders’ concerns and ensuring economic practicality. The revision has been framed as necessary to sustain the operational viability of pollution testing centers and to enable continued service provision.
Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates are an essential regulatory framework designed to monitor vehicular emissions and encourage adherence to pollution standards. The PUC certification process involves a detailed check of a vehicle’s exhaust emission levels to ensure that it operates within the legally permissible limits. However, the PUC certificate rate for Petrol, CNG, or LPG four-wheelers has been increased to Rs 110 from the previous Rs 80 rate. Diesel-propelled vehicles will see the highest adjustment, with the pollution check rate now set at Rs 140.
