Ghajini 2 in the Making: Aamir Khan and Suriya Set to Join Forces for Pan-India Project

Emerging buzz in the film industry suggests that Bollywood star Aamir Khan and Tamil cinema icon Suriya are on the verge of kickstarting the much-anticipated sequel, Ghajini 2. The notion has been reportedly brewing since producer Madhu Mantena revisited the concept of the 2008 Hindi blockbuster and shared it with Aamir Khan, whose enthusiasm for the script development promises remarkable progress.

The original Ghajini, directed by A.R. Murugadoss, not only created waves in India but marked a significant milestone as the first Hindi film to cross the Rs 100-crore mark domestically. Now, the anticipation surrounding its sequel mounts as Mantena’s discussions with Aamir seek to recapture that magic on a larger scale.

Interestingly, the Tamil version’s storyline could also see a revival, with Allu Aravind, who backed the original 2005 Tamil Ghajini, making strides to involve Suriya. Known for bringing intense and dedicated performances to his roles, Suriya reportedly found the narrative extension compelling and is eager to take on this cinematic voyage once again.

What makes this development particularly exciting for cinema enthusiasts is the strategic decision to release both the Hindi and Tamil versions simultaneously across India. As the industry transitions towards more pan-India releases, Mantena and Aravind are conscious of synchronizing both versions to preserve the novelty and widespread appeal of the story. A source familiar with the project disclosed, “Launching the Tamil film ahead would undercut the Hindi version’s uniqueness. Besides, the Hindi team is keen on evading the ‘remake’ label. These considerations led to the consensus of simultaneous productions.”

In parallel, notable actors Mohanlal and Ajay Devgn are potentially pairing up for the Malayalam and Hindi versions of Drishyam 3, slated to unfold in a similar parallel manner. Director Jeethu Joseph indicated plans are underway to wrap up the thrilling franchise with a script that remains to be cracked.

Meanwhile, the multitasking genre of cinema lineage continues as Shruti Haasan, who was scheduled to appear alongside Rajinikanth in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming film Coolie, has stepped down from two other films due to creative disputes. Haasan had been involved in the filming of Dacoit: A Love Story with Adivi Sesh, which came to a halt over artistic disagreements. Additionally, her role in Chennai Story, an Indo-UK production directed by Philip John, remains unfulfilled as she departs from the project without stated reasons.

Shifting focus, whispers of a special cameo by Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan in Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 have been circulating. Although no official confirmation exists, industry sources speculate that SRK’s character, Pathaan, might share screen time with Jr NTR in this action-centric narrative, further fortifying YRF’s Spy Universe.

As for Tamil superstar, Ajith Kumar’s alleged shift from acting to auto racing, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Despite a hiatus, Ajith plans to juggle his cinematic pursuits and passion for racing. He is gearing up for a grand return to the racing circuits, scheduled to participate in the 24H Dubai 2025 and the European 24H Series Championship while maintaining an annual film presence.

On another celebratory note, the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 came to a close, honoring achievements in global cinema. Esteemed actress Shabana Azmi received the Excellence in Cinema Award, and the festival showcased 110 films across 50 languages, awarding Amit Dutta’s Rhythm of a Flower the Golden Gateway. Honorable mentions included projects by Raam Reddy and Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha’s Girls Will Be Girls, acclaimed for promoting gender sensitivity in film narratives.

Meanwhile, Bollywood stalwarts Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan are expanding their real estate portfolio, with significant investments in upscale Mumbai residences, adding further to their property ventures.

As these cinematic and lifestyle stories unfold, the announcement of Ghajini 2 is a testament to the evolving narrative complexes captivating audiences and transcending linguistic and geographic boundaries. With dynamic figures like Aamir Khan and Suriya spearheading the project, the sequel harbors strong potential for a groundbreaking impact across the silver screen.
