Huma Qureshi Heads to Rajasthan for Police Procedural Drama “Bayaan”

Huma Qureshi is all set to return to Rajasthan, only two months after she wrapped up the shooting of Jolly LLB 3. This time, she’s gearing up for her role in the upcoming police procedural drama, “Bayaan.” Co-producer Shiladitya Bora expressed immense excitement about Qureshi’s involvement in the project, revealing that she was the first choice of director Bikas Mishra.

“Bikas met Huma in Los Angeles in 2019 during the Film Independent residency. She was the first actor he pitched the story to, and we are thrilled it worked out with her,” Bora shared. The enthusiasm surrounding Qureshi’s participation is palpable among the film’s creators, who believe her portrayal will breathe life into the character and the film itself.

The narrative of “Bayaan” centers on Qureshi’s character, an investigator newly assigned to her first major case in a small town in Rajasthan. The film, set to commence shooting in mid-month, promises to be a gripping drama supported by the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund. The script was developed at LA Residency, which indicates the high level of craftsmanship involved in its creation.

Director Bikas Mishra, known for his previous work “Chauranga” in 2014, is helming this ambitious project. Interestingly, Mishra received mentorship from Craig Mazin, the brilliant mind behind critically acclaimed series such as “Chernobyl” (2019) and “The Last of Us” (2023). Mazin’s guidance helped enhance the richness of the story, giving it the depth and complexity that the genre demands.

Mishra is confident that Qureshi’s expertise and enthusiasm will elevate the film to new heights. “Huma is a powerhouse of performance and enthusiasm. Her ability to inhabit complex characters is undeniable, and her energy will elevate Bayaan to a new level,” he stated. This combination of a well-crafted story and Qureshi’s compelling screen presence anticipates a notable entry into the catalog of Indian police procedural dramas.

In addition to Qureshi, the film boasts an impressive cast, including Chandrachur Singh and Sachin Khedekar. Bora admitted that approaching Singh for the role was done with a sense of hesitation. Known for his portrayal of charming heroes, Singh brings a new flavor to the film, embodying the film’s principle of contrarian casting. “We believe in contrarian casting. We knew that Chandrachur is known for playing the charming hero. But he is such a warm and receptive actor that he instantly agreed to this part,” Bora said.

The entire team is buzzing with the anticipation of commencing work on what promises to be a landmark film. The film’s development at the LA Residency and the support from the International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund suggest it has undergone meticulous preparation, shaped by international filmmaking standards.

Rajasthan, with its rich tapestry of culture and history, provides an evocative backdrop for this police procedural drama. The unique setting is expected to add authenticity and intrigue to the narrative, capturing both the essence of the locale and the tension inherent in the genre.

The Hubert Bals Fund, known for supporting high-quality and innovative cinema, is a testament to the film’s potential impact on audiences globally. The involvement of an internationally celebrated mentor like Craig Mazin further positions “Bayaan” as a project to watch out for.

As Huma Qureshi and the rest of the cast head to Rajasthan, there is considerable buzz surrounding “Bayaan.” This excitement is shared not just by the film’s creators but also by movie enthusiasts who eagerly await the transformation of this promising script into a cinematic reality. Set for a mid-month start, the film embarks on its journey with high hopes and greater expectations.

Stay tuned for more updates on this much-anticipated project, as “Bayaan” readies itself to make waves in the realm of police procedural dramas.
