Inside Vedang Raina’s Intense Preparation for ‘Jigra’

Vedang Raina, a name that recently surged to prominence with his debut in ‘The Archies’, is now making waves for an entirely different reason. The actor is at the center of discussions regarding his arduous preparation for ‘Jigra,’ a role that has taken a significant toll on his mental health. Directed by Vasan Bala, ‘Jigra’ promises to be an action-packed narrative centered on a prison break, highlighting the extreme lengths a sister will go to protect her brother. Starring alongside the versatile Alia Bhatt, Vedang is stepping into uncharted territory, pushing his boundaries as an actor.

The crux of Vedang’s role involves highly intense and emotional scenes, one of which required him to isolate himself in a highly unusual manner. Speaking to Mansworld, Vedang recalled, “The shot was supposed to happen at 3 pm but got delayed, and we started rolling around 8 pm.” To prepare, Vedang took the dramatic step of locking himself in his vanity van for eight hours. He turned off the lights, switched off his phone, and asked everyone to leave him alone, creating a state of self-imposed solitary confinement. “Even when the scenes were done, I couldn’t get out of that zone for two to three hours. I realized that this method was not sustainable. After that experience, I decided I needed to find a better way to access my emotions,” Vedang reflected.

This initial experience of locking himself away was not the only demand that Vedang faced for ‘Jigra.’ Playing a prisoner brought its own set of challenges. Vedang admitted that replicating the experience of incarceration was daunting and intimidating. He explained that understanding the mindset of an incarcerated individual was difficult and involved some intense scenes. “I have never had to cry on camera before, and that was an emotional hurdle I had to overcome,” he shared.

Adding to these challenges was the physical transformation required for the role. Vedang had to shave his head multiple times throughout the year-long shooting schedule.
