In a grand event marked by historical significance and artistic fervor, acclaimed actress Kangana Ranaut unveiled the music album for her highly anticipated film ‘Emergency’ at the prestigious Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in New Delhi. This venue, which stands as a tribute to India’s Prime Ministers, provided a fitting backdrop for the launch, further accentuating the historical narrative that the film seeks to portray. The album, composed by musical maestros G.V. Prakash Kumar and Arko Pravo Mukherjee, with lyrics penned by the renowned Manoj Muntashir, promises to transport the audience back to the evocative era of the 1970s through its blend of potent anthems and soulful melodies.
The ‘Emergency’ album features a range of compelling tracks that encapsulate the spirit and tumult of the 1970s. Among these is the commanding anthem “Singhasan Khali Karo,” performed by Udit Narayan, Nakash Aziz, and Nakul Abhyankar. This track has already resonated deeply with listeners, setting the tone for the immersive musical experience that the album promises. Equally noteworthy are the heart-wrenching ballad “Ae Meri Jaan” by the legendary Hariharan, the stirring battle cry “Shankhnaad Kar” featuring Nakul Abhyankar, Neeti Mohan, and Romy, the melodious “Beqarariyaan” performed by Monali Thakur, and “Sarkar Ko Salaam Hai,” a tribute to leadership sung by Sree Ram Chandra. Each song has been meticulously crafted to reflect the film’s overarching themes of power, resistance, and the unyielding human spirit, making the soundtrack an essential companion to the film’s gripping narrative.
Speaking at the launch, Kangana Ranaut expressed her exhilaration, stating, “Launching the album at Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, a tribute to India’s Prime Ministers, is an honor. With each song, we revisit history, celebrate courage, and honor the nation’s spirit. I thank the artists for making this soundtrack extraordinary.” Her words underscored the album’s role in not only accentuating the film’s storyline but also in highlighting the resilience and valor of the Indian spirit during one of the nation’s most challenging periods.
Adding to this sentiment, composer G.V. Prakash Kumar shared his thoughts on the unique journey of creating the music for ‘Emergency.’ He remarked, “Composing for ‘Emergency’ was a rewarding journey.
. The music embodies the spirit of an era of political upheaval and emotion, serving as a powerful narrative that captures the essence of those times.” His insights highlight the careful attention to historical context and emotional depth that went into crafting each piece of music for the film.
However, it has not been smooth sailing for the project. Kangana Ranaut opened up about the ongoing challenges related to the film’s certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Addressing the issue, she revealed, “There have been rumors circulating that my film ‘Emergency’ has been certified by the Censor Board. This is not true. While our film did receive clearance from the CBFC, the certification was delayed due to numerous death threats against members of the censor board. This situation has put pressure on us not to depict certain sensitive historical events, such as Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s assassination, Bhindrawale, and the Punjab riots. This raises the question – what can I actually show in the film? It’s an unbelievable time for me, and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country.”
The film ‘Emergency,’ written and directed by Kangana Ranaut herself, boasts an ensemble cast including stalwarts like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. The narrative, which delves deep into the political turmoil and socio-economic upheaval during the Emergency period in India, has created significant anticipation among audiences and critics alike. The screenplay and dialogues, crafted by Ritesh Shah, promise to deliver a poignant and impactful cinematic experience.
Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, ‘Emergency’ is slated for a theatrical release on the 6th of September 2024. With music orchestrated by Sanchit Balhara and G.V. Prakash Kumar, the film’s score plays a pivotal role in enhancing the narrative’s emotive power. The release is eagerly awaited, as it promises to provide a deep dive into a defining era of India’s history, melding the past’s resonant echoes with the present’s cinematic artistry.
