Kannada filmmaker A T Raghu has passed away at the age of 75 years. The filmmaker, known for his superhit 1994 action film Mandyada Gandu, was ailing from age-released issues from last five-six years.
Raghu, hailing from Bettathur village in Kodagu district, Karnataka, was a resident of RT Nagar in Bengaluru. He is survived by his wife Leela Raghu and children Bijoy Ganapathy and Binu Sachin.
Raghu started his journey in the film industry under the mentorship of producer-director B Vittalacharya. He later assisted YR Swamy, known for his collaborations with Dr Rajkumar (Bhakta Kanakadasa, Sipayi Ramu, Paropakari).
AT Raghu debuted as a director with Nyaya Neethi Dharma in 1980. His MandyadaGandu, which starred Srishanti, Meghana, Bank Janardhan and Vajramuni, is known for its hit songs. Ambareesh got his moniker ‘Mandyada Gandu’ thanks to the film’s success. Upendra Kumar composed music for the movie.

Kadina Raja, Shankar-Sundar, Preethi (1986), Aasha (1983) and Inspector Kranti Kumar were the other noted films from AT Raghu. In another milestone in his career, AT Raghu worked with Rajinikanth in Meri Adalat, aremake of his film Aasha.
