‘Loveyapa’ box office day 1: A slow start for Khushi Kapoor-Junaid Khan’s rom-com

The much-anticipated romantic comedy Loveyapa, starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan, had a disappointing theatrical debut, collecting just Rs 1.25 crore on its opening day, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. Despite an extensive marketing campaign and a star-studded premiere featuring Bollywood’s three Khans — Aamir, Salman, and Shah Rukh — the film failed to draw audiences to cinemas.
Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa was released across approximately 2,300 screens in India but recorded a meager 9.56% occupancy. The film was expected to benefit from the curiosity surrounding its lead actors, both of whom hail from Bollywood royalty—Junaid as Aamir Khan’s son and Khushi as the daughter of the late Sridevi. However, early reviews have been mixed, which may have contributed to the lukewarm response.
Compounding Loveyapa‘s struggle at the box office is its competition with Badass Ravikumar, Himesh Reshammiya’s musical action-comedy, which fared better, opening at Rs 2.75 crore. Moreover, recent Bollywood remakes have underperformed, with Baby John and Deva failing to meet expectations, indicating a growing fatigue among audiences for rehashed content.
Loveyapa, a remake of the 2022 Tamil hit Love Today, follows a young couple who swap phones for 24 hours under the girl’s father’s orders before marriage. While the original was a massive success, its Hindi adaptation—made on a reported budget of Rs 60 crore—now faces an uphill battle to recover costs. The coming days will determine whether word-of-mouth can salvage its box office prospects.
