Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhry is poised for a significant comeback with Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ and her upcoming film ‘The Signature’ alongside veteran actor Anupam Kher. Known for her impressive roles in iconic films like ‘Pardes’, ‘Daag: The Fire’, ‘Dhadkan’, ‘Dil Hai Tumhaara’, and ‘Lajja’, Mahima’s return marks a remarkable chapter in her illustrious career. The actress, who has also bravely battled cancer, shared haunting memories of a horrific car accident that once led to her being dubbed ‘scarface’.
In a candid interview with Radio Nasha, Mahima recounted the distressing accident that occurred in Bengaluru while she was en route to an early morning shoot for the film ‘Dil Kya Kare’ with Ajay Devgn. Mahima vividly recalled the moment when a vehicle from the wrong side collided with her car, causing grievous injuries to her face. “When my accident happened, I didn’t initially realize the severity of the cuts on my face. It was only later, in the bathroom, while looking in the mirror, that I comprehended the extent of my injuries. Before that revelation, I had assured Prakash ji (Prakash Jha, the film’s director) that we could proceed with the shoot, but he insisted that we wait and discuss future dates after obtaining approval from the doctors,” Mahima recounted.
The actress’s wounds were so severe that 67 glass fragments had to be painstakingly removed from her face. In a heart-wrenching conversation, she also revealed the deep fears she harbored about her career. She requested Ajay Devgn and Prakash Jha to maintain confidentiality regarding her condition, fearing that any leak could jeopardize her future prospects in the industry.
“Ajay and Prakash ji were immensely supportive and respected my plea. When they returned from the hospital, I implored them, ‘Please don’t tell anyone about this. Let me at least try to see what can be salvaged of my career.’ Their discretion was monumental. For two decades, the story stayed under wraps until I decided to share it. It’s commendable that the production team kept my confidence during such a trying time.
. I continued to go on sets, and everyone could see the aftermath of my injuries,” Mahima stated.
Reflecting on her ordeal, Mahima spoke about the continuous assurance given by Ajay Devgn, who tried to uplift her spirits, predicting that post-surgeries, everything would be fine. Despite his positive outlook, Mahima couldn’t shake off the fear and stress about her future. “Ajay used to say that after surgeries, it would all be good, but I found it hard to believe. I was contemplating other career avenues. Even today, one of my eyes is noticeably smaller than the other. Back then, facing the camera was incredibly stressful. I never showed a perfect front, always angling my face slightly,” she explained.
Mahima’s upcoming film ‘The Signature’ delves into the poignant journey of a devoted husband, portrayed by Anupam Kher, who confronts a profound personal crisis. The film, scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 on October 4, promises an emotionally charged narrative brimming with themes of love, sacrifice, and resilience. Additionally, in the political drama ‘Emergency’, Mahima will assume the role of Pupul Jayankar, a confidante to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, adding another pivotal character to her versatile acting portfolio.
The actress’s story is one of incredible resilience and determination, overcoming both a devastating accident and a battle with cancer. As she prepares for her much-anticipated return to the silver screen, audiences are reminded of her undying spirit and passion for her craft. Mahima Chaudhry’s trajectory serves as an inspiring testament to her enduring talent and indomitable will.
Her fans and well-wishers eagerly await her performances in these upcoming films, which promise to add new dimensions to her storied career.
