Massive Investment in Vintage Sets for Varun Tej’s ‘Matka’ Impresses Fans


We had previously reported that Varun Tej is teaming up with director Karuna Kumar of Palasa 1978 fame for a new film titled Matka. Produced jointly by Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainment, the film features Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female lead and has Nora Fatehi in an impactful role. The shooting of the film is currently in full swing, and the makers are busy with the third schedule, which has been planned as a 35-day long, continuous stretch of shooting.

To bring the essence of retro Vizag to life, the filmmakers have made a significant investment in the production’s set design. They have reportedly spent a whopping 15 crore on creating elaborate sets at the renowned Ramoji Film City. This enormous financial commitment showcases the team’s dedication to achieving an authentic recreation of yesteryear Vizag.

Varun Tej took to X to share a behind-the-scenes clip showcasing the making of the impressive set designs. In his post, he enthusiastically noted, “Reliving the retro magic with #Matka Shoot in progress!” tagging the key members of the team, including director Karuna Kumar, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and Nora Fatehi.

The makers issued an official statement emphasizing their vision for the movie: “Matka is set to be a high-budget pan-India film. The investment in the vintage sets underscores the commitment to delivering a visually spectacular experience. These sets, meticulously designed to replicate the charm and essence of Vizag from a bygone era, are expected to be one of the highlights of the film.”
