On-Set Prank Takes a Dark Turn for Bollywood Star Ajay Devgn

On-screen, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is known for his compelling performances, but behind the scenes, he’s famed for his mischievous antics. A notable instance of his pranking has recently resurfaced—a troubling episode that nearly resulted in tragedy. As Devgn gears up for his next big release, ‘Maidaan,’ he took a moment to reflect on a dark moment from his past, acknowledging the fine line between humor and its unintended consequences.

On April 2, while celebrating his birthday, the versatile actor, husband to actress Kajol, and father to Nysa and Yug, recounted an incident from years prior when a seemingly harmless jest spiraled out of control. During an out-of-town film shoot, Ajay played a continuous prank on a co-star’s wife, convincing her that her newlywed husband was being unfaithful during supposed nocturnal film shoots.

Ajay shared the troubling story during an interview, detailing how the prank persisted for over a week. “We would keep telling the wife that her husband is having an affair and that he secretly leaves at night, even though there were no night shoots,” he said. Despite the wife’s awareness of Ajay’s reputation for practical jokes and expressed trust in her husband, the stress took its toll. By the ninth day of this cruel hoax, the wife had ingested pills in an attempt to end her life, resulting in an emergency hospital stay following a confrontation with her husband.

It is a sobering reminder that pranks can have unforeseen and grave effects, casting a shadow over the light-hearted façade of on-set playfulness. Ajay has not divulged further details about the aftermath or the current state of the couple, but the incident raises a poignant discussion about the responsibilities inherent in practical joking, particularly involving individuals not versed in the cultural dynamics of the film industry.

Moving beyond this dark chapter, Ajay Devgn is focusing on his career’s upward trajectory. His upcoming film ‘Maidaan,’ set for theatrical release on April 10, honors the legacy of Syed Abdul Rahim, the football coach who brought glory to Indian football in its formative years. Ajay takes on the role of Rahim, while South Indian actress Priyamani co-stars as Rahim’s wife. The sports drama has faced delays and setbacks, including a dismantled set due to COVID-19 restrictions and destruction caused by Cyclone Tauktae. Nevertheless, the project, led by director Amit Ravindernath Sharma and featuring music by the legendary AR Rahman, is finally reaching audiences.

Additionally, Ajay has bagged a role in the anticipated action thriller, ‘Singham Again,’ directed by Rohit Shetty. This heavyweight cinema spectacle boasts an ensemble cast that includes Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and Tiger Shroff, projecting a new pinnacle for this Indian cinema stalwart.

Through the highs and lows of his expansive career, Devgn’s journey reflects the complexities of fame and the importance of ethical awareness when navigating the boundary between humor and harm. As he celebrates another successful year, Devgn no doubt carries with him lessons from both the applause and the silence—mindful of the impact his actions, on and off the screen, can have on those around him.
