Popular Television Actress Dolly Sohi Succumbs to Cancer Following Sister’s Demise

The television industry is mourning the loss of one of its cherished stars, Dolly Sohi, who was renowned for her roles in hit TV shows such as “Jhanak” and “Bhabhi”. Dolly Sohi’s life came to a tragic end on the morning of Friday, March 8th, at a Navi Mumbai hospital. The cause of her untimely departure was cervical cancer, an illness she had been bravely fighting for about half a year. This heartbreaking news arrived merely hours after her sister, Amandeep Sohi, also an accomplished actor known for the popular TV show “Badtameez Dil”, passed away due to complications from jaundice.

At 47, Dolly Sohi had been a vibrant presence in the Indian television industry, remembered fondly for her diverse range of characters that resonated with audiences across the nation. Her journey in battling the disease was marked with determination and hope. “She is no more. She passed away around 4 a.m. at the Apollo Hospital. She had cervical cancer which had spread to her lungs. We had admitted her last night to the hospital as her health had deteriorated,” disclosed Manpreet, the brother of Dolly and Amandeep, while speaking to PTI.

The affliction had been publicly known, as evidenced by Dolly’s last Instagram post dated February 20, where she called upon her fans and followers to harness the power of prayer for her. She wrote, “‘Prayer’… The world’s greatest wireless connection… Works like a miracle… So, please I need your prayers.” The message was a poignant reminder of the struggle she faced and the support she sought from her well-wishers.

Amandeep, Dolly’s sister, who was in her early 40s, also fought her own health battles before succumbing to jaundice at the DY Patil Hospital on Thursday night. The sisters’ afflictions brought a double tragedy to their family and the entertainment community at large.

Further intensifying the emotional landscape of this story, Amandeep took to Instagram last month to express her pain over a distasteful incident involving model Poonam Pandey, who had falsely claimed to be suffering from cervical cancer. Amandeep condemned the act, stating that it deeply hurt her and her family, especially as Dolly was in the throes of fighting the very disease in question.

Dolly’s notable career footprint comes with a rich legacy of performances that also include her appearances in critically acclaimed shows such as “Kkusum”, “Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi”, “Kumkum Bhagya”, and more recently “Parineetii”. These roles placed her firmly in the hearts of television enthusiasts, making her a household name and a beloved figure in the entertainment sector.

In the wake of the sisters’ passing, the Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) expressed their sorrow with separate condolence messages, acknowledging the contribution of both Dolly and Amandeep Sohi to the world of Indian television. The association, alongside countless fans and members of the industry, is feeling the weight of this profound loss.

The final rites of Dolly and Amandeep Sohi were planned to be conducted in the afternoon, a somber event for friends, family, and admirers to bid farewell to the two sisters who have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry through their passion for the craft and commendable body of work. The legacy of their artistry and spirit is set to endure in the memory of those they touched through their performances and personal battles with illness.
