Ranbir Kapoor’s Remark about Deepika Padukone Sparks Controversy in Old Interview Clip

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, known for his candid and occasionally controversial remarks, is back in the spotlight as an old video resurfaces on social media. Known for pushing the envelope during public appearances, Kapoor created a stir during the promotional run of the 2015 romantic drama ‘Tamasha’, where he termed his co-star Deepika Padukone as harboring a “cheap girl” inside her.

Despite being filmed years ago, the video has only recently caught the public’s attention, causing a buzz in entertainment circles and among fans. In this particular promotional interview, Kapoor, while sitting alongside Padukone, remarked, “Deepika ke andar na ek badi si cheap girl bassi hui hai. You know, you can really talk naughty with her. You can get very cheeky with her, and she responds very well. She’ll respond in a more cheeky way.” Referring to Padukone’s playful nature, Kapoor continued, “Agar aap usko ungli karoge na, woh chodegi nahi. Woh aur ungli karegi. She’s not that kind of girl ki aap usko chidhaoge aur woh sulk karegi ya kuch. Woh wapas degi.”

Padukone, appearing somewhat taken aback yet amused, questioned Kapoor, “How would you be cheap with me?” Kapoor’s response, implying that there’s an innate ‘cheapness’ in Padukone, further fuelled the playful yet controversial nature of the conversation. He stated, “I can’t be in front of the camera. But I’m telling you, isme cheapness bhara hua hai. Cheapness ki dukaan hai yeh.”

The clip went viral, leading to divided opinions among viewers, some of whom considered Kapoor’s comments in poor taste, while others saw it as a light-hearted banter between two good friends and former partners. Both actors have moved on personally and professionally since their past relationship. Deepika Padukone is now married to actor Ranveer Singh, with whom she is expecting a child, while Ranbir Kapoor has tied the knot with actress Alia Bhatt and has been blessed with a daughter named Raha.

In terms of professional achievements, Deepika Padukone continues to scale new heights in Bollywood. Recently, she starred in the much talked-about aerial action thriller ‘Fighter’ alongside leading actor Hrithik Roshan. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Siddharth Anand, the movie also featured Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, and Akshay Oberoi in significant roles, receiving a warm reception from the audience. Fans can look forward to seeing her in the upcoming sci-fi action thriller ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, in which she stars with popular south Indian actor Prabhas. The anticipation for this project is high, with industry legends like Amitabh Bachchan among the cast and a release date set for May 9, 2024.

As for Ranbir Kapoor, he is reveling in the success of his latest release, ‘Animal’, which premiered on December 1. Starring alongside an ensemble cast including Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, Kapoor’s performance received mixed reviews but ultimately shone at the box office. A sequel to ‘Animal’ is already in the pipeline, pointing to the film’s undeniable commercial success.

Furthermore, Kapoor is set to return to the world of fantasy and action in ‘Brahmastra 2’, which is part of an ambitious film trilogy. The Brahmastra series unveils the story of Shiva, a DJ with a mysterious connection to the element of fire and the potential to awaken a universe-destroying weapon known as the Brahmastra. With the second part, ‘Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev’, slated for release in December 2026, and the third part to follow in December 2027, audiences are eagerly anticipating this cinematic journey to continue.

While Ranbir Kapoor’s remark on Deepika Padukone may have stirred up controversy, the professionalism and ongoing success of both actors in their respective careers highlight the dynamic nature of the film industry, where personal histories often intersect with public personas, creating a rich narrative both on and off screen.
