Rumors have recently been laid to rest about the much-anticipated film project which was expected to bring together Bollywood’s beloved Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter Suhana Khan, with esteemed director Sujoy Ghosh. The buzz surrounding this father-daughter collaboration has dissipated, following concerns after Suhana’s debut performance.
Suhana Khan stepped into the limelight with Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s ‘The Archies’, a project which also featured budding talents like Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda. This debut sparked immediate interest in Suhana’s next move in the industry, leading to whispers of a partnership with her father, widely known as the “King of Romance,” for her following film. Speculation arose last year in June that both father and daughter would star in this noteworthy film, with Sujoy Ghosh later confirmed as the director in November.
Bollywood enthusiasts were ecstatic at the thought of the duo sharing screen space, particularly because it was expected to be an action thriller, tentatively titled ‘King’. The revelation of this genre came as a surprise, defying the conventional soft portrayal often anticipated from a father-daughter narrative.
However, in light of a lackluster response to ‘The Archies’, sources suggest Shah Rukh Khan has reconsidered the wisdom of such a collaboration at this early stage in Suhana’s career. A close source, speaking to Times Now, expressed this shift in strategy: “I don’t think that project is happening. Not after ‘The Archies.’ Suhana needs to find a project as far removed from her father as possible. Earlier, SRK was tempted to get on camera with his daughter asap. Now after ‘The Archies,’ this historic togetherness is gone on the backburner.”
This budding project had promised to be a unique action thriller with a solid narrative between father and daughter, challenging the norms of their real-life relationship. The source previously disclosed to a prominent entertainment news portal, “The film has been titled ‘King’ and will be a one-of-a-kind action thriller with strong dynamics shared by Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan.”
Shah Rukh, during a promotional tour to Saudi Arabia, conversed with MBC Bollywood about his children’s individual choices to join the film industry. He stated, “I’m happy that now that they themselves are into films and it’s a choice they made. Me and Gauri as a family, never told them to do this or that, free to choose what they wish to. One of them chose to be an actor, my daughter. My son decided to learn direction so both of them are in films. Son is directing the film, the daughter has already acted in one film.”
However, it now seems that aspirations to see the two Khans on the big screen together may be on hold, if not permanently shelved. It indeed represents a significant turning point for Suhana, who may now need to carve out her own niche in an industry where her father’s legacy looms large.
The industry and the audience alike will now be watching keenly to see what steps the young actress will take following this development. As the notion of them teaming up for a high-octane action film drifts away, one wistfully wonders what might have been a cinematic milestone for one of Bollywood’s most iconic families. For the moment, it appears both Shah Rukh and Suhana Khan will continue their cinematic journeys separately, garnering experiences that may one day converge on the silver screen when the time is right.
