‘Shaitaan’ trailer: R Madhavan Ajay Devgn clash in diabolical horror-thriller

The menacing undercurrents of supernatural horror are set to grip audiences with the release of the much-anticipated trailer for “Shaitaan,” directed by Vikas Bahl, promising a spine-chilling drama peppered with thrilling plot twists. Uniting the talents of heavyweights Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R Madhavan, the film plunges its characters into a harrowing ordeal that blurs the lines between the real and the spectral.

The stage is set in an elegant villa, where tranquility is violently upended by the arrival of a mysterious stranger, portrayed by R Madhavan, whose intentions are anything but benign. Despite the fervent objections of the residents, the stranger defies all norms of decorum and stubbornly refuses to leave. Devgn and Jyotika, who form the backbone of the stricken family, swiftly move to oust the unwelcome guest but are met with a perturbing display of dark powers as their young daughter Janhvi falls under an insidious spell.

Ominously, the child acts under command, her behavior growing increasingly sinister with each passing moment—from consuming tea powder in alarming quantities to launching an assault on her father. As nightfall cloaks their hope in shadows, the family’s fight for freedom from this demonic snare intensifies, and the trailer teases the nerve-racking desperation that sets the tone for the entire movie.

Crafted as a remake of the 2023 Gujarati horror film “Vash,” helmed by Krishnadev Yagnik, “Shaitaan” retains its original’s chilling storyline while infusing it with a fresh cinematic perspective. Janki Bodiwala, hailed for her performance in “Vash,” reprises a significant onscreen presence, bridging the new narrative with the haunting essence of the previous work.

Vikas Bahl, the directorial mind behind critically acclaimed titles such as “Queen,” “Shandaar,” “Goodbye,” and the recent action spectacle “Ganapath,” brings his distinctive vision to this eerie saga. Skillfully orchestrating suspense with each scene, Bahl ensures that “Shaitaan” stands as a testament to his versatility in embracing the darker realms of storytelling.

With a release date set for March 8, the film is punctuated by the melodic prowess of Amit Trivedi, whose composition for the film’s music is anticipated to resonate with and amplify the film’s haunting thematic elements. As Indian cinema continually expands its horizons, “Shaitaan” emerges as a testament to the industry’s growing proclivity for genre experimentation and pushing the envelope of traditional narrative confines.

The convergence of powerful performances, coupled with a script that unapologetically delves into an exploration of evil and its manifestation within the mundane, sets “Shaitaan” apart as a cinematic encounter with the diabolical. Audiences will soon witness the unfolding of this gripping tale, as the trailer has undoubtedly laid down the groundwork for a blockbuster that will send shivers down their spines and linger in their minds long after the credits roll. “Shaitaan” is not just a film, it’s an immersive experience into the dark depths of horror and suspense, promising to hold viewers in its sinister thrall.
