Actor Silambarasan is turning producer for his 50th film that’s tentatively titled STR 50. The film will be director Desingh Periyasamy’s sophomore project after Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (2020).
The first look of the film was released today on the occasion of the actor’s birthday. Taking to X, Silambarasan called the film “a dream project for both me and Desingh. We are pouring our hearts into this! Excited for this new venture and truly hoping for all your love and support as always!”
Interestingly, back in March 2023, it was announced that the actor’s 48th film will be bankrolled by Kamal Haasan under his home banner, Raaj Kamal Films International, along with R Mahendran. The film was supposed to be directed by Desingh.

While it’s unclear if STR 50 is the same film, there have been reports that Raaj Kamal Films has dropped the project and Simbu will be bankrolling the same film under his Atman Cine Arts.
STR 50 will mark the reunion of Simbu and composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. The duo had earlier teamed up for films like Manmadhan, Vallavan, Silambattam, Vaanam, Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan and Maanaadu. The new film’s technical crew also consists of cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa and editor Praveen. More details on the cast and crew are expected to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, Silambarasan will soon be teaming up with director Ashwath Marimuthu for a film which will commence after the release of Ashwath’s Dragon, starring Pradeep Ranganathan. Silambarasan recently wrapped shooting for Thug Life and the actor’s 49th film will be helmed by director Ramkumar Balakrishnan of Parking fame.
