Sumona Chakravarti Reflects on Her Absence from The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show and Future Ventures

Sumona Chakravarti, a famed stalwart of Indian television, has finally opened up about her absence from the hit celebrity comedy talk show, The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show. This absence has left many fans speculating and yearning for her presence on the show that has been entertaining audiences globally. Chakravarti’s enigmatic absence became a topic of keen interest, especially given her long-term association with Kapil Sharma and the show’s illustrious legacy.

Chakravarti has been a prominent face in the realm of Indian comedy and is widely recognized for her seamless performances on Colors’ Comedy Nights with Kapil and Sony TV’s The Kapil Sharma Show. Addressing the much-debated question about her non-appearance on the new venture, The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, the actress revealed to PTI, “I don’t have an answer to this. The show that I was a part of, which was on another channel, concluded last year in July. Since then, I’ve been on my own journey, doing my own things, networking, and meeting people.”

This latest installment of the show saw Sharma transition to the global streaming platform Netflix, collaborating with a fresh ensemble cast including Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Rajiv Thakur, and Archana Puran Singh. While the new series has been well-received, Chakravarti’s absence has been profoundly felt by fans who have expressed their sentiments across social media platforms.

Chakravarti, who also garnered acclaim for her role in the popular TV serial Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, shared that fan support remains unwavering. “I know fans have missed me, I’ve seen their messages. I meet people everywhere, the moment you step out of the house, your neighbors tell you. That is exactly what motivates you to do something different. When I was in London last year, I had so many people telling me that they liked me in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. It’s really nice to see the love coming whether it’s for Bade Achhe or Comedy Nights. It’s great and you know you are doing something right. Nobody expected me to do well in comedy,” she added.

At 35, Chakravarti is keen on diversifying her career and stepping out of her comfort zone. She is gearing up to participate in the stunt reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, which has been a significant departure from her usual comedic and dramatic roles. “This year some exciting stuff will happen with fiction. I was busy with theatre.

. Now, this is happening. So, it’s about doing something different now,” she explained.

Speaking about her illustrious career, Chakravarti expressed profound gratitude for the opportunities she has had. She reminisced about her role as Natasha Kapoor in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, a show that became a significant milestone in her career. She also touched upon her role in director Anurag Basu’s 2012 film Barfi!, in which she played the role of Ileana D’Cruz’s friend. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “Bade Achhe Lagte Hain gave me a name, it was my claim to fame. I had worked a lot before, but Bade Achhe Lagte Hain made me famous, and I owe a lot of my career to that show. For Barfi!, we didn’t even have the script, but the idea was to work with Anurag da. I took up the film thinking, ‘This will be an amazing crash course as an actor’. I knew I’ll get to work with Ranbir, with Priyanka. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a scene but it was amazing to be a brick on the wall. You learn so much by just having a film like Barfi on your resume.”

Chakravarti is visibly excited about her participation in Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, a show where celebrity contestants face their worst fears to win the coveted title. She revealed that her mother has been an avid supporter and consistently encouraged her to join the Rohit Shetty-hosted show. “Every year she would be like, ‘Why don’t you do this show?’ I would be like, ‘Why you want me to be in an uncomfortable situation?’ I know there’s a certain image that has been created in people’s minds because of my body of work, so I thought Khatron Ke Khiladi is a great platform, where I get to do things that I would really like to do, like going on adventures. It’s also a platform that will present my real self, how I deal with situations,” she elaborated.

The forthcoming season of Khatron Ke Khiladi is anticipated eagerly by fans and will feature a myriad of contestants such as Shilpa Shinde, Asim Riaz, Krishna Shroff, Shalin Bhanot, Abhishek Kumar, Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia, Karan Veer Mehra, Kedar Aashish Mehrotra, Aditi Sharma, Gashmeer Mahajani, and Niyati Fatnani. The adrenaline-packed show is set to air soon on Colors channel, promising thrilling escapades and edge-of-the-seat entertainment.
