TV Stars Share Personal Insights and Lessons Gleaned from Janmashtami Celebrations

New Delhi: The curtains have drawn on this year’s Janmashtami festivities, yet the celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth continues to leave its mark on many, particularly among some of India’s notable television actors. Sahil Uppal, Monalisa, Aayush Shrivastava, and Lakshay Khurana took a moment to recollect their experiences, half-forgotten childhood memories, and the enduring wisdom they’ve gleaned from Krishna’s teachings.

Sahil Uppal, known for his role as Gagan in Sun Neo’s show ‘Saajha Sindoor’, opened up about his treasured memories. “I’ve not had the chance to portray Krishna on screen yet,” he began, “but one of my most cherished memories from childhood was dressing up as Krishna for a celebration. The depth and grace of Krishna have always mesmerized me, and I’d be thrilled to bring his character to life on screen one day. If given the chance, I would treat the role with utmost respect and dedication to truly embody his essence.”

Reflecting on Krishna’s teachings, Sahil added, “The principle of staying true to oneself and performing one’s duties selflessly is something that has deeply influenced my life. Lord Krishna’s message from the Bhagavad Gita, which emphasizes focusing on our actions rather than the outcomes, has been a guiding light for me. It has helped me remain grounded and motivated in both my personal and professional life.”

Monalisa, a prominent figure on Indian television, expressed the special significance of Janmashtami in her life. “Lord Krishna and his teachings from the Geeta have consistently been my guiding star, making Janmashtami a particularly cherished occasion for me. Each year, I take pleasure in decorating the palana (cradle) and crafting new garments for Laddu Gopal ji. After performing the abhishek, I lovingly place him in the palana. Whenever I find the time, I also visit the temple, enjoying the bhajans and the devotees’ dance during the Aarti.”

She delved deeper into how Krishna’s teachings have shaped her approach to her craft. “One specific teaching that has stayed with me is Krishna ji’s idea that while you have the right to perform your duties, you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. This belief has guided me through my career, be it my participation in over 125 movies, reality shows, or playing roles like the Daayan in fiction series. My focus is always on giving my best to each role without expecting anything in return.

Aayush Shrivastava, star of the supernatural show ‘Shamshaan Champa’ on Shemaroo Umang, spoke about his nostalgic memories tied to Janmashtami. “The festival holds a very special place in my heart, primarily because it brings back a flood of childhood memories. Growing up in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, I vividly remember the colorful and joyous celebrations. We used to organize ‘matki phod’ events with friends, sing bhajans, and immerse ourselves in the festival’s spirit. My family continues to celebrate Krishna’s birth at midnight every year, and one of my favorite bhajans to sing is ‘Achutam Keshavam.’ For me, Janmashtami is a beautiful reminder of the joy and devotion that Krishna brings into our lives.”

Lakshay Khurana, who plays Aditya in Sun Neo’s show ‘Ishq Jabariya’, also shared fond childhood memories. “I recall playing Krishna in a school play, which was an unforgettable experience. Wearing the peacock feather crown and holding the flute gave me a special connection to Krishna’s playful yet wise nature. The applause from the audience and the sheer joy of portraying such a beloved character still bring a smile to my face. It was a role that left a lasting impression on me.”

These heartfelt reflections from the actors underscore how, even though Janmashtami has officially ended, the festival’s impact and the timeless teachings of Krishna endure throughout their lives. The actors’ personal stories highlight the festival’s deep cultural resonance and the enduring legacy of Lord Krishna’s philosophical insights. From the importance of selfless duty to the acceptance of outcomes with equanimity, the spiritual messages continue to inspire and provide guidance in their lives, both personal and professional.

For Sahil Uppal, Monalisa, Aayush Shrivastava, and Lakshay Khurana, the observance of Janmashtami is far more than a ritualistic celebration; it is a yearly reaffirmation of the wisdom and values taught by Lord Krishna. Their stories exemplify the abiding Hindu belief that the teachings of the divine can profoundly impact everyday life, encouraging reflection, growth, and a sense of community. As they continue their careers and personal journeys, these actors find solace and inspiration in the timeless words of Krishna, proving his teachings are as relevant today as they were centuries ago.
