Unmasking the Viral Dance Sensation: Is it Muttiah Muralitharan Grooving to ‘Tauba Tauba’?

The quirky and vibrant track ‘Tauba Tauba’ from the film ‘Bad Newz,’ sung by the talented Karan Aujla and featuring Vicky Kaushal’s electrifying dance moves, has taken the internet by storm ever since its release. The song has garnered widespread acclaim, finding its way into the playlists of fans and notable figures within the film industry alike. As dance enthusiasts and social media users ramp up their creativity, a curious new video has become the focal point of online buzz, putting none other than Sri Lankan cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan at the center of an unexpected controversy.

It all began when a video clip surfaced showing what appeared to be Muralitharan grooving to the infectious beats of ‘Tauba Tauba.’ This intriguing clip quickly spread like wildfire across social media platforms, capturing the curious eyes of netizens who eagerly shared and commented on the uncanny dance moves. However, despite the widespread belief that the cricket icon had taken to the dance floor, the man in the video was revealed to be choreographer Kiran Jopale.

The misunderstanding reached its peak when Muralitharan, currently serving as the bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), was thought to have traded his cricketing prowess for dance acclaim. A tweet shared under the handle @Johnnie5ir on July 30, 2024, captioned “SRH Bowling Coach Muttaiah Muralidharan Vibing To Tauba Tauba 🎉,” further fueled the mix-up, leaving fans both amused and bewildered.

The truth behind the viral sensation was unearthed when dance aficionados familiar with Jopale’s style identified the choreographer. Jopale was giving a dance class in Bengaluru when he performed the now-famous routine. Despite the clear resemblance, the choreography’s origin was finally credited to him, dispelling the doppelganger confusion that had netizens scratching their heads.

Jopale’s original video, which can be found on his Instagram account (@mr.kiranj), highlights his impressive dance talents and the seamless execution of ‘Tauba Tauba’ moves that captivated audiences. The video continues to draw views and comments, cementing Jopale’s reputation as a skilled choreographer while clearing Muralitharan’s name.

As the social media frenzy calmed, attention returned to the track ‘Tauba Tauba’ itself, a lively number sung by Karan Aujla that played a significant role in promoting ‘Bad Newz.’ The film, directed by Anand Tiwari, features Vicky Kaushal, who has received high praise for his dynamic dance performance in the song. Notably, during the film’s promotion, Vicky shared his elation at receiving a shout-out from Bollywood dance icon Hrithik Roshan.

In his expression of humility and excitement, Vicky remarked, “Hrithik sir, yes, he is the god of dancing in this country, in fact, in the world. So for me, he’s an inspiration.

. He has always been an inspiration. Unki taraph se ek pat on my back aajaate hai aise lagata hai ki… I won an Oscar. So it meant the world.”

Reflecting on the overwhelming reception to the song, Vicky added, “First of all, I feel overwhelmed. But in a very nice way. Because we have worked hard for many years to get such a response. We should do something that people like so much: make those reels and videos. And this love, I mean, for us, of course, box office, etc., is a very good thing and everybody in the team gets happy because the film earns money, because at the end of the day, it’s business, someone has invested money in it. But this love, this acceptance, this coming to people, we work hard for this. So when you get this love, you get a lot of happiness.”

‘Bad Newz,’ released on July 19, stands as a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘Good Newwz,’ which starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh. The film’s direction by Tiwari, along with a team of co-producers Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Amritpal Singh Bindra, aims to recreate the charm and humor that made its predecessor a hit.

The screenplay penned by Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja brings another layer of engagement, ensuring that ‘Bad Newz’ lives up to the high expectations set by ‘Good Newwz.’ Until the dust settles on the viral video fiasco, the spirited steps to ‘Tauba Tauba’ will keep fans entertained and the internet buzzing.
